Jacob Larsen

June 13, 1980 — May 8, 2016

Captain Jacob Larsen completed his earthly mission on Sunday, May 8th, 2016, at Fort Irwin, CA.  He was born June 13th, 1980, in Brigham City, UT, to Wayne and Kara Larsen.  Jake accomplished many things during his earthly tenure.  He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout while attending Bear River High School,  graduating in the class of 1998.  Jake served a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Santa Rosa, CA, from 2000-02.  Promptly after his return he enlisted in the US Army under the 18X option. He graduated from Infantry Advanced Individual Training,  Airborne Training, and Special Operations Preparation Course at Ft Benning, GA.  Jake then completed the Special Forces Assessment and Selection program at Ft Bragg, NC, where, after completion, was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division as a Styker driver at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA.  While stationed there,  he deployed with his unit to Mosul, Iraq, where he was injured by a vehicle borne IED and was sent home.  Instead of accepting a medical retirement from the military, he pursued a Green to Gold Scholarship which enabled him to attend Weber State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2011 and received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.  Also during this period, he married and was sealed to his best friend and love of his life, Alaira, and celebrated the birth of their first daughter.  Jake was again stationed at JB Lewis-McChord as a medical officer where he furthered his education becoming certified as a PICC nurse.  They were blessed with two additional daughters while stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.  He also obtained his PALS and ACLS certifications while at his final duty station of Fort Irwin, CA.  Jake was fiercely loyal to his family, friends, and country and will be sorely missed.  Jacob is survived by his wife, Alaira; daughters Alhanna, Isabella, and Keira; parents Kara and Wayne;  grandfather Bert Johnston; sister,  Teri Thompson; and brothers, Jeffrey (Lacey), Joshua (Emily) and Jordan (Chari); and all of his nieces and nephews.
