Arvid "Nard" Johnson

June 30, 1930 — March 26, 2018

Arvid “Nard” Bernard Johnson, age 87, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018 in Tremonton, Utah.  Nard was born on June 30, 1930 to parents Otto and Vera Johnson in Montreal, Canada, while the family was returning to Utah after visiting relatives in Finland.

He married his sweetheart Loy Vee Johnson on December 18, 1970, and later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on October 26, 1979.

Nard grew up in Salt Lake City and lived in Tremonton for nearly 40 years.

During the Korean War, Nard served in the army, AUS SIG C, PFC (T), for 8 years where he received military training in aeronautical mechanics. While in the army he earned the Good Conduct Medal.

Nard was a machinist, mechanic, and inventor, with expertise in special tooling. He owned Tri-Century Tool & Research in Tremonton.  Some of his accomplishments were his U.S. patent in 1975 for an apparatus for spreading granulated and pulverized material, scoring among the top 3 on military aptitude tests in 1951-1952, and the Horseless Carriage Award for superb craftmanship in restoring antique cars.  Nard’s greatest life-long hobby was restoring antique cars.   He loved working with his hands and bringing ideas to life.  Nard’s approach to any project was that there was always a way, you just had to find it.  He was often revered as a “genius” by many who knew his talents.

Nard is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was also a member of a number of clubs including: The Antique Automobile Club of America, the Horseless Carriage Club, and the Model T Ford Club of America.

He is survived by: his beloved wife Loy Vee Adams Collings Johnson; his children, Judy Lynn Wilkison, Eva May Johnson Guerts, Collin Arvid Johnson, Lyle Bernard Johnson, & Jessica Lola Johnson Hawes; his step-children, Ronald C. Collings, Valerie C. Newton, Gregory B. Collings, and Phillip S. Collings; and siblings, Elvie Johnson Isackson and Marlene Johnson Boulden.

He was preceded in death by his previous wife, Charlene Johnson, and his ex-wife Donna “Jill” Johnson.

Funeral services for Nard will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, March 31, 2018. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral service from 11:30- 12:30 P.M. All services will be held at the Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home (111 N. 100 E., Tremonton, UT). Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.ruddfuneralhome.com

Antique cars will be on display at the funeral home this Saturday in his honor.
