RIVERSIDE – Barbara Ward Capener, age 83, passed away on June 26, 2015 at the Bear River Care Center in Tremonton, Utah. She was born June 22, 1932 in Cropley, Utah (Iowa String), at the home of her parents, Glen and Alice Ward. She was the second child and the sister of her only brother, Max Ward.
Barbara lived in Cropley and attended McKinley School through sixth grade and then moved to Riverside, Utah, where she lived the rest of her life. She attended Garland School and graduated from Bear River High School. She then attended Weber College for one year and moved to Utah State University, where she graduated in Home Economics. She taught Home Economics at Bear River High School for two years, and the College of Southern Utah for one year.
She married Richard Capener on July 12, 1957, in the Logan LDS Temple, and taught one year at Box Elder Junior High. She finished out her teaching career teaching adult education for Box Elder School District for 25 years.
Barbara was always active in her church callings. She was ward organist for many years. She was president of the ward Relief Society, counselor in the stake Relief Society, Logan Temple ordinance worker for 14 years and served with her husband as Temple ordinance workers in the Nauvoo Temple when it first opened in 2002.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; her four children: DeAnn (Lawrence) Hill, Farmington, UT & St. Charles, MO; Glen Lee (Tammy), Jay (Kristi), Ken (Laurie) Capener all of Riverside, UT; 17 grandchildren, Aaron (Melissa Wise) Hill, Maren Hill, Alison Hill, Carli (Justin) Potter, Katie (Gavin) Hall, Josh (Nicole) Capener, Courtney (Jess) Shaffer, Jed Capener (Washington Federal Way Mission), Jason (Morgan) Capener, Kami Capener, Justin (Shayna) Capener, Cade Capener (Singapore East Malaysia Mission), Kalli Capener, Nathan Capener, Jessica Capener, Shaylee (Kevin) Whimpey, Whitney Capener; and 8 great-grandchildren, Chloe & Capri Capener, Emma & Lucy Potter, Mack, Grant & Isaac Hall and Ivy Whimpey.
Funeral Services for Barbara will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at the Belmont 2nd Ward LDS Chapel (16925 N. 5200 W., Riverside) with a viewing held prior to the service from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., there will also be a viewing held Tuesday, June 30, from 6-8 pm, also at the church.
