Jane Bernice Petersen Allen passed away Friday, September 09, 2011 at the Bear River Valley Care Center, Tremonton, Utah, after an extended illness due to the effects of Alzheimer’s. She is the daughter of Jane Elma Christensen and Claudius Neils Petersen. Bernice was born April 9, 1929, in Fielding, Utah. She was a beautiful and elect lady. She was married to her sweetheart, Robert Lee Allen, April 20, 1949, in the Logan LDS Temple after she had waited while Lee served in the US Navy WWII and his mission to Hawaii. Bernice spent her lifetime serving others; her family, her friends, her God and anyone who needed a helping hand. She served in many church callings including Relief Society, Primary, Sunday School and was also PTA President. She was a devoted wife to her husband in his callings, in public service and many church assignments. She loved living at the family farm in Blue Creek, Twin Bridges, Montana, Collinston and East Garland. Bernice was happy for the opportunities to serve the youth. She was active in the training programs; training leaders in the Boy Scouts of America and the Aaronic Priesthood programs. She had earned her Silver Wolf, the Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver award. Bernice and Lee served two LDS missions; one in the Oakland, California mission where she was honored to serve with the Samoan people whom she dearly loved. Their second mission call was to serve in the Honolulu Hawaii Mission. They worked at the Visitors Center at the Temple at Laie and Officiated at the Laie Temple. The sister missionaries loved her. She was their Mother away from home. Bernice and Lee also served as missionaries on the Islands of Lanai and Hawaii. Bernice was an officiator in the Logan Temple and the Temple at Laie. She enjoyed traveling to Asia, Europe, Central America and most of the states. Bernice is the loving mother of six children and one foster son; Robert (Pennie), Lewis (Genevie), Lani Jane (Rodger) Callister, Suzanne (Dewey) Pierson, Pauline Allen, Andrew Lee (deceased), a foster son Samuel Herrera, (deceased). She is survived by her loving husband, five children, nineteen grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren and her siblings, Dr. J. Claine (Irene) Petersen, Glen (Revoe) Petersen, VaLoise Sorensen, Arlene (Ferris) Macfarlane, Marie (Milton) Bywater, Norman (Marguerite) Petersen, and a host of loving friends. Bernice loved people and people loved her. She was sweet and loving to the end. A heart-felt thanks to the management and staff of the Bear River Valley Care Center. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 15th at the Fielding Stake Center, 4375 West 15600 North, Fielding, UT at 11AM. Friends may call Wednesday evening Sept. 14th from 6-8PM at the Fielding Stake Center, and Thursday from 9:30-10:30AM prior to the service.
