Our dear mother passed away on 31 December 2023 in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Rex McKee surrounded by family. Mom was born on 10 January 1930 in Ogden, Utah to Howard Wilson Bingham and Edith Mae Field Bingham.
She was married to the late Glenn Ray Barfuss on September 8, 1950, in the Idaho Falls, Idaho temple. Mom said the first two months of marriage were like heaven. Then he got called to serve in the army and she was left pregnant and had her first child without him. She and Dad built a home together while he finished college then they started and built Barfuss Garage.
Mom was an exemplary homemaker while raising six kids, keeping a tidy home, keeping herself pretty for her sweetheart, and always having a home-cooked meal. She wasn’t shy to work hard. She and Dad taught by example. Mom could out-hoe anyone thinning beets and would be in the house before anyone with a hot meal ready when the rest of the kids and Dad came in for lunch.
She loved to keep a pretty yard. Many kinds of flowers would be found to make the yard beautiful. Her home on the inside always had plants and flowers. She loved pretty things. Mom had a gift to sew. When the girls were young, she would make them dresses. When Christmas came along, she would make dresses for the dolls and Barbies. She loved to quilt. She made many quilts for her children and grandchildren. She hand-stitched every one, “with love,” she’d say. Including the bindings. Mom loved to play games and was a hard one to beat. Mom especially loved the gospel of Jesus Christ, she loved the scriptures, serving missions with Glenn, being in the temple, and she loved God. She had a strong testimony that if you do your best and live close to God, He will bless you and everything would work out.
Mom and Dad served two stake missions together, served in the Logan temple for 20 years and served three missions together (San Bernardino, California, Auckland, New Zealand, and McAllen, Texas). She always talked fondly of those experiences.
Beverley is survived by her children Von (Shirley) Barfuss, Bryce (Sherie) Barfuss, Sandra (the late Arvid) Meikle, Laura (Rex) McKee, Becky (Leo) Castagno, Kerry (Mellany) Barfuss, 28 grandchildren, 80 great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Glenn Barfuss, son-in-law Arvid Meikle, parents Howard and Edith Bingham, brothers Kenneth and Harold and sisters Carol, Doris, and Helen.
