Bonnie June Parker Stenquist

August 18, 1941 — August 8, 2023

On August 8, 2023, in Idaho Falls, ID, we lost a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend Bonnie June (Parker) Stenquist. She passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family just a few weeks shy of her 82nd birthday.

Bonnie was born August 18, 1941, to June Eva James and Charles Wayne Parker, in Murray, UT. She was the oldest sibling to her dear brother, Sterling Wayne Parker. Bonnie developed a love for music at the young age of 8 years old, where her dedication to taking lessons and practicing the piano started. By the age of 12, she had the opportunity to start serving as Junior Sunday School pianist for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She continued her service playing the piano and organ for countless soloists, choirs, church, school and civic events even during the last few months of her life. Her love for teaching the piano continued for 65 years. Bonnie graduated from Jordan High School in Salt Lake County, UT, as a member of the class of 1959. In high school, she was a member of the school marching band where she played the bells and was member of the Charlonians drill team. Bonnie’s fondest memories from her childhood were growing up on 3rd East in East Midvale, UT where she had the pleasure of living close to her dear cousins and neighborhood friends. They spent countless hours playing together in the yard, riding bikes and building lasting friendships that continue today.

After she graduated, she attended BYU and Utah State University where she continued to study music. In January 1962, Bonnie met Delos Einor Stenquist on a blind date where they attended a Green and Gold Ball put on by the Tremonton 1st ward. Delos drove her back to Salt Lake City and that was the start of their eternal relationship. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan, UT Temple on August 10, 1962. They settled in Salt Lake City where Bonnie worked for the State of Utah in the Water Engineering Department. This began a long career of working in multiple government agencies in 3 states including Utah, Montana, and Washington.

Bonnie and Delos moved a few times during their marriage. They lived in Sandy, UT, Great Falls, MT, Yakima, WA, West Haven, UT and currently Idaho Falls, ID. She was able to meet many friends that became like family members. Bonnie touched the lives of everyone she met with music.

Finally, they were blessed with 2 children, Russell Lee Stenquist and Heather Jean (Stenquist) Petrus. Bonnie loved being a mother and was something she always longed for. Being a grandmother brought her even more joy and she was grateful for all 10 of her grandchildren.

Throughout her life she was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many capacities, but she loved the opportunity to accompany and would play the piano for anyone who would ask. She will always be remembered for her beautiful, sweet disposition. Bonnie never had an unkind word to say about anyone.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents June and Charles Parker of Salt Lake City, UT. She is survived by her eternal companion of 61 years, Delos Einor Stenquist, (Idaho Falls, ID), Russell (Amy) Stenquist of Idaho Falls, ID; Heather (Jeremy) Petrus of Idaho Falls, ID; grandchildren, Tanner (Mary) Stenquist of Pocatello, ID; Jensen (Nikolai) Hepworth of Rexburg, ID, Maycee (Cole) Hayward; Carly, Kennedy, Garrett Stenquist of Idaho Falls; Michael, Eliza, Leah, and James Petrus of Idaho Falls. Brother, Sterling (Sandy) Parker of Saratoga Springs, UT; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 12:00 pm, Monday, August 14, 2023, at the Iona 9th Ward Chapel (4440 High Grove Road) in Idaho Falls, ID. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 10:00am to 11:30am. A burial will be held at 12:00 pm in the Riverview Cemetery (175 E 1200 S) in Tremonton, UT on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.
