Bradley Kim Allred, 66, of Bear River City, Utah, died at the University of Utah Hospital on Tuesday morning, November 3, 2015, of Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Brad was born August 14, 1949 in Star Valley, Wyoming, the son of Zenneth Woodrow and Wilda Viola (Hokanson). Brad has one brother, Leron, and 5 sisters: Beth Perry (deceased), Carol (Grant) Kennington, Luann (Ed) Enderlie, Debra (Rob) Fulton, and Cindy (Daryl) Paul.
The lessons Brad learned early in life working with his father on their dry farm, left an indelible impression and shaped his character and work ethic. He learned responsibility and the value of hard work. Those attributes served him well, as his mother relied upon him a great deal after the death of his father when he was just 15. He loved Star Valley and loved working with his dad, but he decided early on to choose engineering over dry farming.
He was very prepared at the age of 19 to serve in the Colombia Venezuela Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for two years. He had choice as well as tough growing experiences there which further shaped his character, ability to work hard, to learn, and the beginning of a sound knowledge, testimony, and lifelong study of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He loved the Savior. His greatest desire was to serve Him throughout his life.
In January of 1971 he resumed his studies at USU, pursuing the goal of a degree in Mechanical Engineering. There he met his sweetheart and future wife, Lelia (Lee) Harris. They were married on August 20, 1971. After completing his degree in 1974, they moved to Brigham City where he began work at Thiokol, now ATK Orbital. Four years later he finished a Master of Engineering Degree also at USU. After 16 years in Brigham City, he took on the project of building a home for his family in Bear River City where they have lived for the past 25 years.
He was greatly blessed by seven beautiful children, Charles Bradley (Heather Bailey), Darrin Everett (Alyson Ford), Wendy (James) Nelson, Spencer Welchman (Michelle Pickett), Eric Penn (Kiersten Thornock), Halley David (Carol Abbott), Alexander Barton, and 13 grandchildren - each held a very special place in his heart.
He graduated from ATK in June of 2014, retiring after 40 great years doing the work he loved. It was time for the climax of a great life as he and his wife were called to serve in the Barranquilla Colombia Mission, beginning December 2014. Each month there was a treasured gift, so it was with heavy hearts when his failing health pressed them to return August 2, 2015. He and Lee were again blessed to be able to serve another 2 months with the Utah Logan Mission in the Brigham City Spanish Branch, quickly developing many treasured friendships. He demonstrated amazing courage as he continued missionary work despite the struggle to breathe. He loved life, his wife, his family, his friends and he loved to serve. He would be the first to claim absolutely no regrets. It was truly a Wonderful Life!
