On July 1, 1971, he married Karen Braegger in the Logan Temple and made their home in Honeyville raising their two children – Cory and Gwen.

Byron was a stalwart member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in several callings, his favorite being a clerk in the Bishopric. After retirement, Byron served for 10 years as an ordinance worker in the Ogden and Brigham City temples.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, son Cory (Carolyn) of Honeyville, Gwen (Dave) Kotter of Taylorsville, nine grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are brothers Tom (Julene), Jay (Diane), Lynn (Terry), and sisters Rachel (Keith) Holdaway, Marie (Tyler) Holst, Eva (Neil) Persson and other extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, and one great-granddaughter Rosa Stanley.
