Carl Rhodes

Carl Boyd Rhodes, 92, passed away on March 30, 2013, after a day surrounded by loved ones. Carl was born on August 9, 1920 in East Garland, Utah to Jasper William and Ellen Garn Capener Rhodes. He was the 9th of 15 children. This is where he was taught and learned the value of hard work.
Carl attended Bear River High School. At around 18 years of age, he moved to the family farm located on the Iowa String where he worked and lived the rest of his life. Carl married Nola Hunsaker on March 22, 1949 in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they reared six children, their youngest daughter was born exactly ten years to the day that their oldest daughter was born. They had 27 grandchildren who they loved and influenced. Nola preceded him in death on October 19, 1991.
Carl worked hard all of his life farming. He worked at U&I Sugar in the winters. He also worked for the Box Elder School District as a custodian at Bear River High and later after retirement from every-day farming, he stayed busy delivering Meals on Wheels which he enjoyed immensely Carl could never sit idle for long.
He was a member of the Tremonton Third Ward LDS Church and served in various callings throughout his life. His favorite was working with the young men in the sports program.
He was instrumental in developing the Bear River Valley Wool Pool, the Bear River Valley Lamb Pool and helped organize the Iowa String Drainage District. He served on the board of the Soil Conservation District for 18 years.
After the death of his wife Nola, Carl married Marian Eloise Robbins Grover on November 7, 1992. Carl and Marian were great companions for one another, they enjoyed camping and spending time with both of their families. Marian preceded him in death on February 1, 2003.
Carl is survived by two sons and four daughters, Karla Jenkins, Denise (Dustin) Cornwall, Debbie (Gaylan) Luke, Wesley (Donell) Rhodes, Timothy (May Dawn) Rhodes and Jayne (Dee Wayne) Hunsaker, and also Marian’s five children, who he thought of as his own, Margene (Bert) Chew, Karlene (John) Marshall, Jay (Melanie) Grover, Clayton (Trisha) Grover and Lane (Tanja) Grover, 44 grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren between the two families. Carl is also survived by one brother, Blaine Rhodes and two sisters, Alta Munns and Beth Wood. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives Nola and Marian, 7 brothers and 4 sisters.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 5, at 12:00 noon in the Tremonton 3rd Ward Chapel, 9590 North 6800 West, Tremonton, with Bishop Dennis Christensen officiating. A viewing will be held Thursday evening, April 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday morning from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton. Burial will be in the Honeyville Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Hospice Care of Northern Utah and all of the many friends and family for their loving care of Carl during the past six months.
