Carol Hess

Carol Hess, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Wife, and Daughter, age 86, died Tuesday, November 08, 2011 at her home in Garland, Utah. She was born in Fielding, UT on May 14, 1925, the fourth of eight children of Wesley J and Florence Emily Doman Garn. She attended Bear River High School, and married Vern Hess on June 11, 1945 in Malad, Idaho. For most of their married life they lived in Garland. Vern died on February 27, 1988. Carol worked at Smith’s Food King in Brigham City, and, later at Rudy’s IGA in Garland. After retiring, she worked part time in billing at the Garland City Water Dept. She always loved driving, even if it was just to take Grandma or Grandpa Hess to Ogden to the Dr. Her favorite place to take a family drive and picnic was up Logan Canyon. Most of all, she loved simply spending time with her sisters, her children, and grandchildren. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held a calling as ward librarian. Carol is survived by her sisters, Rae (Parley) Peterson, Fielding, Utah; Beth (Ernest) Burnett, Moses Lake, Washington; Jean (Fred) Nye, Issaquah, Washington; Dayle (Ron) Stimpson, Fielding, Utah; her children Vikki (Johnny) Hunsaker, Garland, Utah; Kathy (Bary) Roderick, Plymouth, Utah; Jim (Rhonda), St George, Utah; Merri Calhoun, Starkville, Mississippi; Mike (Tammi), Brigham City, Utah; Ken, Twin Falls, Idaho; 20 grandchildren; 37 Great grandchildren; and 6 great, great grandchildren. Carol was preceded in leaving this life by her parents; two sisters, Mary and Florence; her brother, Jack; her husband, Vern; son-in-law, Johnny; and two grandchildren, Wendi Roderick and Cory Hess. A private family memorial will be held at Fielding Cemetery at 1:00 on Saturday, November 12, 2011. From the family, deep, heartfelt thanks go out to the kind Hospice workers who took care of Mom.
