Charles Emery Marriott died peacefully in his Garland, Utah home surrounded by family on November 4, 2024, at the age of 87. He will be welcomed to his heavenly home by many loved ones. He was preceded in death by his sweetheart Kathleen (Benedict), his son Alan Jay Marriott, his parents Helen (Wilcox) and John Emery Marriott. Also preceding him were his siblings Camille (Marriott) Foster and John Clyde Marriott, and one grandson Benjamin Stratton Johnson.
He loved serving others and left a long list of benefactors of his unsung kindness. He loved his family and was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather. He was an excellent welder, fixer-upper, and figure outer. He was quietly encouraging, often saying, “It will all work out.” In support of his powerful work ethic, he frequently said, “People die in bed.”
If there was a list of ‘things that aren’t Dad’s favorite,’ it would include missing tools, broccoli, Mom’s dogs, and contention of any sort.
Charles was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dad lived his life knowing his most important responsibility was husband and father, and that was apparent in all he did. He also served the Lord in many church callings such as, Bishop, High Councilor, Sunday School Teacher, High Priest Group Leader, and Temple Ordinance Worker. Prior to serving as a Bishop in Redding, he served in five other Bishoprics as a counselor.
On December 12, 1957, he married Kathleen Mary (Benedict) and they were the parents of nine children. He is survived by eight of his nine children. Joy (Marriott) and Roger Johnson, Jim and Carolyn Marriott, Brian and Christina Marriott, Bruce and Cody Marriott, Shirleen (Marriott Cardenaz) and Gary Burnett, Cindy (Marriott) Sinclair, John Brigham and Alicia Marriott, Jacob and Heather Marriott. Charles is survived by 63 grandchildren, 122 great grandchildren. All descendants including spouses, 239.
