Charles Taylor

November 13, 1923 — April 25, 2014

Charles (Charlie) Ralph Taylor passed into the arms of his daughter Nancy, on his way to the big party in heaven, on Friday, April 25th, 2014. Charlie, also known as Otis, was born November 13, 1923 to Ethyl and Ralph Taylor in Williamsville, Illinois. No one can deny that he lived a full, fruitful and dynamic life, touching the hearts and minds of many.

He was a World War II Naval Veteran of the Pacific and was incredibly proud to serve his country. Following the war, at 21, he invented the weather cap and this was the beginning of many creative endeavors. After many years of farming in Kansas, the Taylor family moved to Tremonton, Utah in 1955; Charlie and his father Ralph saw what no one else did in the Curlew Valley: irrigated farming. He was the first to drill big, deep wells on the flat and with this he and his family developed thousands of acres, creating a truly groundbreaking, sustainable farming and ranching operation. Also in his spare time, Charlie opened and ran the local John Deere dealership for 24 years, helping many family farms across northern Utah and bringing donuts to the masses during John Deere Days. He had a knack for innovation; a self-made man with the determination to succeed.

His parents, his sister Mary and her husband, Lynn Nelson, daughter Nancy Taylor, son-in-law Daniel Franks, and grandson Charles Joseph Franks, made it to the party before Charlie did, but it’s all good because they saved him a seat at one of the better tables. He leaves behind the love of his life, Susan Sheaffer Taylor; his daughters: Harriet (Chip) Ritter, Lydia (Dennis) Poulsen, and Martha Franks; his grandchildren: Taylor (Ben) Beard, Sabrina (Ches) Burmester, Samantha Ritter, Danielle (engaged to Koshal Thirumalai) Franks, Seth (Emily) Poulsen, Riston Taylor, Ryan Poulsen and Lori (Jerry) Maxwell; his great-grandchildren: Bentley Burmester, Otis Beard, Micheala, Jared and Zachary Maxwell, and Camden, Masen and Jaydee Burmester.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 29th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Tremonton Stake Center, located at 660 North 300 East, Tremonton, Utah. There will be visitations with the family held Monday, April 28th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home, located at 111 North 100 East, Tremonton, Utah, as well as Tuesday morning prior to the funeral from 9:30- 10:30 at the Stake Center.
