Chris Thomas

Chris W. Thomas, of Logan, Utah, passed away June 9, 2018 from colon cancer. Despite enduring numerous surgeries, excruciating pain, and blood clots, he lived to see his son graduate from high school.

Chris was born January 31, 1961 to Rollin and Helen Thomas.  He was raised and educated in Soda Springs, Idaho.  There he made lifelong friends and discovered his passion for fly fishing, hunting, and the beauty of the outdoors.

He graduated from Utah State University in 1985 with a degree in finance.  He worked in Oregon, Indiana, and Utah in various places and industries, including car dealerships, finance, engineering, and teaching people how to fly drones. He was ahead of his time in seeing the potential of drones. Chris was especially grateful for his colleagues at Utah State University, Bridgerland Technology, and Sportsman’s Warehouse, with whom he worked over the past 20 years.

He married Jeannie Banks on August 17, 1984 (later divorced). Their children, Madison and Rio, were the pride and joy of his life. Being their father was his greatest honor.

He was a great influence on the youth he associated with in basketball, lacrosse, fly fishing, drone flying, and other activities.  They loved his energy, quick wit, and sense of humor.  He welcomed them into his home with a meal, a place to stay, and a listening ear for problems they may be facing.

Chris had the deepest love for his companion, Carla Zundel. Words cannot express his family's gratitude for what she did for him. She was always by his side, in the best and worst of times.

The family wishes to thank his friends, too numerous to name, for all the fun times and help they provided Chris during the last year of his life. They also wish to thank the medical teams that helped him enjoy some quality of life since his cancer diagnosis in October 2016.

A memorial service will be held at the Latter-Day Saint chapel at 325 Lauralin Drive, Logan, Utah on June 30, 2018, starting at 11:00 a.m.  Family and friends may call at the chapel from 9:30 to 10:45 that morning.
