CORINNE – Our sweet mother, grandmother, great grandmother daughter, sister, wife and friend passed away on January 17, 2015. Cynthia Lee Whiting Roper (Cindy) passed away after a valiant six year battle with cancer surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on February 3, 1948 in Weiser, Idaho, daughter of Stanford Benson and Enid Dorothy Golding Whiting. She has four brothers; Charles (Cathy), James (Darla), Robert (Janelle), and Ronald (Lorraine); and three sisters; Bonnie (Steve) Olp, Shari (Kevin) Carnahan and Anna (Bryan) Murray.
She attended Weiser High School where she was very active in the marching band playing the oboe and the clarinet. Her senior year she was the drum major. She was able to attend the Rose Festival Parade in Portland, Oregon as part of the band. Before the parade began, the band was called upon by parade officials to perform two numbers to the coliseum crowd. The band did so, and received a standing ovation from over 10,000 attendees. She also played basketball and participated in student council.
She graduated from Brigham Young University with her teaching degree and taught school for over 30 years. She taught in Idaho at Tyhee Elementary and in Utah at North Park Elementary, K-6th Grade. She loved the opportunity to touch the lives of the many children she was able to teach. She loved to read and instilled in many the desire to do better and excel in their school work. She was loved by many children and enjoyed working with her colleagues, mentors and teaching students.
She was married to Randall J. Peterson and together they had three beautiful children. Lanette, Brian and Kalisa. They later divorced.
She met the love of her life, Connard O. Roper, on a blind date for a New Year’s Eve party. They started the New Year together and never looked back. They were married on June 6, 1984 in the Logan temple where they were sealed together as a family. They combined their two families where Cindy gained three additional sons; Lynn, Kyle and Don and three additional daughters; Karla, Angela and Trina. She also became an instant grandma! Something that her children never let her forget.
Her greatest love was for that of her family. Ask any of her children or grand children and they will tell you that they knew she loved them and never doubted her testimony of Jesus Christ. Knowing that her time on earth would be shortened due to her illness, her greatest wish was to be with her family when she passed from this life. That was our greatest gift we were able to give to her.
Her second home was in McCall, Idaho. Her family had a cabin there before she was born where they spent time each year. In her 67 years, she only missed going to McCall three times. The Whitings have left a legacy in McCall and she will be missed whenever we visit as family.
She enjoyed many activities with her family. She loved to ride her favorite horse, Star, at home on the ranch in Corinne and in the mountains. This horse protected her wherever she went and in whatever activity they happened to be doing; riding, racing or chasing cows. Throughout the years, Con and Cindy have ventured through the mountains on horses, snowmobiles, razors and 4 wheelers. They have a family cabin in the Uintah Mountains where they spent time, always with family. She was never afraid to follow Con on the trails and he enjoyed having her by his side.
Surviving are her husband, Connard O. Roper, and their children: Lanette (Lee) Sorensen, Brian (Malynda) Peterson and Kalisa Peterson. Lynn Roper, Kyle (Cindy) Roper, Karla (Gail) Ryan, Don, Angela (Chris) Whybrew, Trina (Brandon) Spencer. Together they have 29 grand children and 32 great grand children. Spouses not counted.
She was preceded in death by her parents Stan and Enid Whiting, her sister Bonnie and two grandchildren, Tyler Roper and Analise Sorensen.
