David James Archibald

David James Archibald, 76, Tremonton, Utah, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 26, 2023 at McKay Dee Hospital. Dave was born February 17, 1947 in Tremonton to Dale James and Alta Myrle Archibald. He was the middle of three children. He grew up in Garland and Tremonton. He enjoyed being part of the swim team at Bear River High School and took a State Championship in the breaststroke. After high school, he proudly served his country in the Utah National Guard for several years.

He married Sherri Johnson, they had two children, Bret David and Kristin. They were later divorced. Dave met Jessie Sharp at a church dance, quickly followed by an engagement and were sealed in the Logan Temple for time and all eternity. They were married just shy of 50 years. They had five children, Tesha, Misty De, D James, Michelle & David Ricky.

In 1967, Dave joined his father Jimmy in partnership where they owned and operated a service station in Tremonton, Jim & Dave’s, for many years. He gained many lifelong friendships in the community and enjoyed automotive work. After his father’s retirement, Dave was proud to continue work with his children and to pass the family business onto two of his sons when he retired in October 2020.

Dave loved to be active and in the outdoors. Nothing made him happier than being on a boat with his family at Lake Powell. He enjoyed swimming, rock climbing, scuba diving, slalom skiing, snow skiing, canyoneering, skydiving, going to Aggies ball games, and playing cards. He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed woodworking, building, and home improvement. He had quite the sense of humor and loved to tease just about everybody.

Dave was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various callings, including Sunday School, Elders Quorum, being a member of a Bishopric, as well as, the Stake High Council. He was a Home Teacher and provided service for many members of the ward, including widows. He loved working with the youth in the Scouting program, going on campouts and other outdoor activities.

Dave endured health problems over the past few years but his example and life lessons he has left behind will remain in our hearts and memories forever.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jimmy & Alta. He is survived by his wife Jessie, his seven children, Bret (Missy) Archibald, Kristin Lamb, Tesha Archibald, Misty Archibald, DJ (Josie Beth) Archibald. Michelle (Justin) Kramer, and Ricky (Whitney) Archibald, 19 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; as well as his sisters, Diane DeJarnatt and Kathy Lovoi.

The family wishes to thank Intermountain Hospice and the Intermediate Medical Care Unit staff at McKay Dee Hospital for the love and exceptional care they gave Dave in his final days.

Funeral services for David will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023, at the Tremonton Stake Center (660 N. 300 E.- Tremonton, UT 84337) at 11 A.M. Viewings will be held on Thursday evening, June 1, 2023, from 6-8 P.M. at the Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home (111 N. 100 E.- Tremonton, UT 84337) and prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday, from 9-10:30 A.M. Interment will follow the funeral in the Tremonton Riverview Cemetery. A livestream of the funeral service can be accessed below.
