Dean Showell

Our beloved husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend, Dean Arch Showell, left this earth peacefully on January 23, 2014, at his home in St. George, Utah.

Dean was born on June 8, 1929, in Stone, Idaho, the son of Arch Dean and Mary Cannon Showell. At the age of four, he and his parents moved to Juniper, Idaho. Growing up on a ranch, he loved horses and the outdoors. He had a keen sense and interest in mechanics and could fix almost anything that needed repairing. Dean developed a strong work ethic at a very young age, and was willing to do whatever it took to get the job done promptly and correctly. After graduating from Rupert High School he attended college in Nampa, Idaho, and also served in the U.S. Air Force.

Dean married his sweetheart and Eternal companion, Mable Waldron, in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 26, 1953. His greatest joy in life was his family. He had unparalleled love for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dean's genuine and sincere interest in people, allowed him to become instant friends with everyone he met. This was one of his greatest qualities. After selling the ranch in Idaho, Dean worked for Thiokol Corporation until his retirement in 1992, at which time he and Mable served an LDS mission in Alabama.

Upon their return, they spent thirteen glorious winters in Quartzsite, Arizona which Dean often referred to as some of the best years of their lives. In 2006, they moved to St. George, Utah, to be closer to family and enjoy the sunshine. These years brought priceless memories as they watched grandsons play basketball and enjoyed wonderful family times together. New friendships were made exploring the beautiful red mountains on both ATV's and horseback.

Dean was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints throughout his life. He served in numerous callings in various Church organizations, including Branch President while on his mission. He had a strong testimony of the Savior, providing an example to all who knew him through his daily acts of service to others.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, Mary Lou, his brother, Dale, and an infant son.

He is survived by his wife, Mable, daughter, Sheila (David) Rex, sons, Mike and Geoffrey Showell and JB Harrison, 3 grandsons, Nathan (Penny) Rex, Nicholas Rex, Jordan (Maddie) Rex, great-grandchildren, Kenadie and Maximus Rex, and sister-in-law, Peggy Showell.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 29th, at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home in Tremonton, Utah, (111 N. 100 E.) at 12 Noon. Viewings will be held at the funeral home from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday the 28th, and Wed. from 10:30 to 11:45 prior to services. Interment will be at the Tremonton Riverview Cemetery.
