PARK CITY, UT – Debra Estep Maxfield surprised us all when she passed away on June 11, 2009. Mother, wife, sister, daughter, friend, and “life coach” to many, Debra was an unwavering benefactor of kindness, support and laughter for those who knew her. Debra was born on August 12, 1958 in Brigham City, Utah, though her father – otherwise occupied with an overnight dig – didn’t get the pleasure of meeting her until the next day. She was raised in Garland and Tremonton, Utah by loving parents Shauna and Lowell Estep. Despite the fact that she ate a few worms, assaulted her sister with a fork, and wore her bangs entirely too short, we think that she turned out pretty darn good. Debra graduated from Bear River High School in 1976. She dabbled with the idea of beauty school just long enough for her dear father to pay the tuition, but not long enough to actually attend. Instead, Debra decided to venture into the great big world – and Dixie College in St. George was as far away from her parents as an 18 year old in Utah could go. Don’ t let her failing grade in Disco Dance mislead you, Debra was always a hard worker. She moved at 100 miles per hour and was the “go-go” girl. She studied pre-law in college, saved up her money, and bought her first house at the age of 19. In Ogden, as a quick young sales agent at Roy Realty, she charmed the man that became the love of her life, the father of her children and her “everything.” Debra and Kevin were married on September 29, 1979. Together they built a life and raised two children, Cena and Whit. Park City has been their home for the past 20 years. Most recently, Debra sold real estate at Keller Williams Realty. She made some of her closest friends at Deer Valley Resort, and was looking forward to collecting that leather jacket for 20 years of service. Debra didn’t go through life seeking accolades. Her most esteemed honors and rewards came from helping the people she loved – and there were many, so many. Whether it was volunteering with the schools, or throwing the “best graduation parties ever”, Debra was always there for her children. Known by her 34 nieces and nephews as Aunt Deb, she made every one of them feel like they were her favorite. Never to miss a rite of passage, Aunt Deb could be counted on for weddings, funerals, baby blessings and birthdays. She was a spark plug, fire cracker, ray of light and was cracking jokes all the way to the end. Debra died of complications related to liver failure. Debra is survived by her mother and father, Shauna Deakin and Lowell Jay Estep, her sister Lola (Craig) Garbanati, brother Wesley Jay (Carol) Estep, husband Kevin Leon Maxfield, daughter Cena and son Whitney Kevin.
