Donald "Don" H. Potter

April 19, 1931 — November 16, 2024

Don H. Potter, 93, of Tremonton, Utah, an amazing father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and husband died on November 16, 2024. After a wonderful life in education and service, he has returned to his Heavenly Father and to his beloved wife, Ann.

He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Herman E. and Effie Manning Potter and was the oldest of five children. With his father he learned to raise Hereford cattle, plant crops, haul hay, irrigate the fields, and ride horses in the mountains where the Windmill Land and Livestock Company was, in Box Elder County. This was a beautiful farm and ranch belonging to the Potter family.

He graduated from Bear River High School in 1949 where he served as class president. Soon after graduation he joined the Army National Guard where he served in the artillery during the Korean War. After his time in Korea, he attended Utah State University on the GI Bill, where he graduated in Animal Husbandry. He later returned to USU and earned a Master’s Degree in Education Administration, which started his lifetime career in Education Administration. He met Annice Raye Benson at the Student Center at USU. Don and Ann both graduated in 1955 and were married in the Logan Temple on August 1st of that same year.

Don taught at the old Plymouth Elementary School and was the last administrator before the district closed it. He then served as a Reading and English teacher as well as an Assistant Principal at Bear River Junior High. He spent the remainder of his career as the principal at Corinne and Garland Elementary Schools. He happily retired in 1992 after 35 years in education.

Don and Ann served a mission at Temple Square in Salt Lake City for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed working with the sister missionaries while assigned there. Together they traveled to nearly every continent in the world either by plane or ocean cruise liner, and loved the precious time spent together. They were married for 63 wonderful years until Don’s beloved Ann passed away on August 8, 2017.

Fishing has always been one of Don’s favorite past times. He was most content when found on a lake or reservoir paddling around in his pontoon boat with a fishing pole in hand. He was also an avid enthusiast of war stories and history books. He was a member of the USU Old Main Society, USU Alumni Council and was a USU Aggie Basketball season ticket holder for nearly 40 years.

Preceded in death by his parents Herman and Effie Potter, his wife Ann Potter, sister Arlene Potter Anderson, brother Stanley Dean Potter. He is survived by his sister Diane Potter Roche and brother Merrill Potter. He is the father of four children: Denise Cooper (Cal), Val (Nancy) Potter, Teri Burke, and Kent (Laurel) Potter. He is the grandfather of 12, great-grandfather of 25, and a man well loved and admired by his family and friends.

Don suffered with blindness and other health issues in his final years. As a family we would like to give a special thanks to Inspiration Home Health & Hospice, along with Senior Helpers.
