Garland, Utah - E. Lamont Richards, 85, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2013 in Smithfield, Utah. Lamont was born September 18, 1927, in Fielding, Utah to Elmer Thomas and Mildred Johnson Richards.
Lamont married Colleen Gill on December 10, 1953 in the Logan LDS Temple. They are now reunited after just 5 months of separation. They are the parents of three children; Sheryl (Gorden) Lasley, Smithfield, Brent (Debbie) Richards, Garland, Gloria (Dale) Jensen, Smithfield.
Lamont grew up in Fielding and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945, six months after high school. Lamont was honorably released from the army after 15 months with the 3164th Signal Service Battalion. Following his service in the army, Lamont worked various farming related jobs in the valley and in the fall of 1949, Lamont attended Utah State Agricultural College. It was while in Cache Valley that Lamont met his future wife Colleen at the Elite Dance Hall in Hyrum, Utah. Lamont's professional career was highlighted by 33 years of employment with Thiokol Corporation where he made many friends and felt blessed to provide for his family.
Lamont was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In 1951 Lamont served a mission in the Southwest Indian Mission in New Mexico and Arizona. Lamont served in many church callings including teacher, High Counselor and ward clerk for many years.
He is survived by his children, Sheryl, Brent and Gloria, 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Dennis (Judy) Richards, Brigham City. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Colleen; brother, Milo; sisters, Eleanor, Mary Beth, Florence; and grandchildren, Rebecca, Joshua and Tyler Jensen.
The family would like to thank Dr. Schow, Community Nursing Services, the Bear River Valley Senior Center for their wonderful meals, as well as many wonderful friends and neighbors who helped and served Lamont and his family.
Funeral Services for Lamont will be held in his honor on Saturday, June 29, at 1:00 p.m. at the Garland 5th Ward building, 175 South Main, Garland, with a viewing prior to the services from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will also be a viewing on Friday, June 28, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Rudd Funeral Home (1234 S. Main, Garland).
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the General Mission fund for the LDS Church.
