Elaine Andersen Madsen Johnsen, 90, beloved Mother and Grandma passed away, surrounded by her children, at McKay-Dee Hospital on Monday, March 17, 2025. Elaine was undoubtedly greeted & embraced by her sweetheart Blain, who she has missed for 31 years.
Elaine was born on April 6, 1934, on the family farm in Blue Creek, Utah to Hans Jacob Andersen and Irene D. Mendenhall. Being in the middle of seven siblings meant it was a full house, but it was a house filled with love. Elaine was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She attended and graduated Bear River High and the LDS Seminary. She had a testimony of Jesus Christ’s Atonement and his wonderful plan of happiness.
She met John Blain Madsen and after many dances together, he convinced her to marry him. They were married August 15, 1952. They were later sealed in the Logan Utah Temple on July 15, 1957. They welcomed 4 children to their home; Jeffrey Blain, John Gregory, Jackelyn, and Gary Kay. They kept busy as a family with rodeos, sporting activities, and horse races. Family was their everything. Her testimony and faith that families are forever sustained her and made losing Blain only a little bit easier. What a joyous reunion it must have been.
Elaine served in many capacities, among them the Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society. She was also the ward librarian and served as a temple worker in the Logan Utah Temple. Elaine served the community at the Bear River Valley Hospital as a “Pink Lady” every week for several years. She was employed for many years at Bear River State Bank, later Key Bank, where she retired. Elaine was the ultimate party host. She loved planning every detail and always wanted it to be perfect. She had the perfect glass dish for anything to be served. She was known for her amazing chip dip, Christmas punch, homemade fudge and homemade chocolate cake. Her grandkids could always count on her to offer them a Coke and some chip dip anytime they stopped.
In 1998, she met Lee C. Johnsen. They had so much fun together and were married in January 1999. They filled their time together going to movies, grandkids sporting events, traveling and spending their winters in Yuma, Arizona. The addition of Lee’s three children Kerry (Amber), Pam (Bob), Ken (Susan) and their families was a blessing in her life. She was grateful for their love, kindness, and she especially loved their visits.
Elaine is survived by her children and their spouses; Jeff & Karen of Tremonton, Greg & Sandy of Garland, Jackie & Brian of Kaysville, and Gary & Stefanie of Honeyville. She had 15 grandkids and 35 great-grandkids. Also surviving are two sisters, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law (Marilyn Lightfoot, Eva Allred, LaDee Madsen Scott, & Donnie Reese).
She is preceded in death by her husbands Blain & Lee, her parents, and siblings Leon, Dean, Darrell & Betty.
