Eleanor Capener

December 22, 1919 — July 16, 2015

Eleanor Frances Merry Capener, 95, passed away July 16, 2015, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born December 22, 1919, in Madison, Maine. She was the fourth of ten children born to Blanche and Eugene Merry.

She graduated from Gorham State Teacher's College in 1946. During World War II she worked at the South Portland Shipyard, welding ships. She briefly attended the Ethel Traphagen School of Design in New York City. She received her B.S. in Education at Farmington State Teacher's College in 1959. She taught school in various towns in Maine before moving to Utah.  Concentrating on Library Science and Genealogy, she received her Master of Arts degree in Education from Utah State University in 1973. She taught several years in Salt Lake City.

She enjoyed all types of gardening and could be seen cultivating  flowers or vegetables from early in the morning to dusk. She loved visiting with her family and friends. She liked searching out her ancestors and spent much time doing genealogy work.

She married Leland Smith Capener in the Logan LDS Temple in 1967; they had twenty-five happy  years together.

She was preceded in death by her son David Eugene Merry; her husband Leland Capener and seven of her siblings.

She is survived by her daughter, Juliana Stratton of Las Vegas, eight grandchildren and their children, her sister Mary Caroline Merry Oatway, and her brother, George W. Merry.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday July 25, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at the Riverside Cemetery, Riverside, Utah.
