Kent Hughes Evan Kent Hughes, friend, sweetheart, husband, father, grandfather and devoted son, passed away January 23, 2013. Kent was born in Logan, Utah, to Durrell and Anna Barbara Rohner Hughes, March 28, 1940. His first six years living in Mendon, the next eight in Tremonton and the remainder of his life in Garland. He was a graduate of Bear River High School. In 1962 he graduated from Utah State University, where he majored in Political Science and History. He earned his Master’s Degree in 1975. He taught history and geography at BR Junior High for 20 years and moved to BRHS as the librarian for 23 years. The last 2 years he was back in the classroom teaching. He enjoyed every day working with the youth. He married Deanne Germer, June 24, 1966 in the Logan LDS Temple. From this union came his most cherished blessings; Becky, Katie and Julie. His family was everything to him and he enjoyed the son-in-laws and grandchildren. He loved athletics. He was a statistician for Coach Hughes for 15 years. He ran the football scoreboard at BRHS for 28 years and coached powder-puff softball. Kent with family and friends attended every Utah State University Football and Basketball game when possible. He was an avid reader and surrounded himself with great books. He stayed current on Military History and could identify insignia, and every plane and ship built. His family was taken to many airshows and museums. He was active in the LDS church serving in every organization at some time, Primary teacher for 15 years and merit badge councilor for 25 years. This past year he served in the city council of Garland City. He is survived by wife Deanne, daughters and son-in-laws: Becky and Scott Coleman, Katie and Randall Hill, Julie and Cody Olson, and those precious grandchildren Madelyn, Gabrielle, Dylan, Ashleigh, Macie and Parker. Preceding him in death were his parents and a stillborn brother. Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 26, 2013 in the Garland Tabernacle at 11:00 a.m. Viewings will be Friday, January 25, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home (111 N. 100 E.) in Tremonton, and at the Church, Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Mendon, UT Cemetery
