Evelyn Rhodes

Evelyn Bessie Ekrut Simpson Rhodes, 82, passed away at her home in Garland, UT on March 22, 2015. Evelyn was born on June 27, 1932 in Twin Falls, ID to Ernest Erbal Ekrut & Bessie Leta Harrington.
She was raised in Idaho, where she attended and graduated from Buhl High School in 1951. She married Marvin Eugene Simpson in Buhl on August 27, 1951. He passed away on October 23, 1993. She married Blaine Udell Rhodes on July 30, 2005 in Pendleton, OR.
During her life Evelyn lived in many places throughout her life from Buhl, Idaho; Augusta, Georgia; Modesto, California; Reno, Nevada; Fernley, Nevada; Stayton, Salem, Klamath Falls & Pendleton, Oregon and Garland, Utah.
She worked for the Western Publishing Company in Reno, Nevada. She was also a School Bus Driver in Wadsworth, Nevada.
Evelyn loved to collect things plates, dolls and especially fabric. She loved to quilt, sew and make crafts. Her greatest joy was her family and grandchildren. She loved living in Garland with her current husband Blaine. They enjoyed going to the rodeo, plays and church activities.
She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at age 13 and was a lifelong member. She served in many callings in the Relief Society and Primary. She was also a family history consultant.
Evelyn is survived by her husband Blaine Rhodes, daughters: Elizabeth Ann (David) Shettles, John Marvin (Jolene) Simpson, Jeanine Marie (Richard) Persons & Karen Kay (Gary) Crowder; sister: Lucinda Wright; brother: Everett Copenbarger; 22 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She is also survived by Mike & Whinnie Rhodes, Ronda & Theron Rose, Elaine & Jim Miller, Karen Petersen, Rocky & Rachelle Rhodes and Dan & Liz Leonard.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin Eugene Simpson, brother Benjamin Ekrut, sister Anna Mae Dover and granddaughter Abigail Persons and daughter-in-law Lisa Simpson.
Funeral services for Evelyn will be held on Saturday March 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fielding Stake Center (4375 W. 15600 N.). Viewings will be held on Friday evening March 27, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home (111 N. 100 E.) and prior to the funeral from 9:30- 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place in the East Garland Cemetery.
