RIVERSIDE- Ferris A. Macfarlane passed away on Nov. 8, 2014. Ferris was born July 1, 1929, in Tremonton, Utah, to loving parents Robert D. and Rowane Udy Macfarlane. He spent most of his life in Riverside, Utah, among many special friends and neighbors. He was the 11th of 12th children.
He attended Riverside Elementary and Bear River High School.
He married Arlene Petersen on Dec. 7, 1949, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Ferris was very proud of his military service. He was drafted into the Army in January 1952, and served in the Korean War. While in Korean, he went to Etta Jima Japan where he attended the Crane and Shovel Specialist School. In Korea, he served in the 378 Engineer Combat Battalion as a staff sargent. He received the Commendation Ribbon with Metal Pendant while there.
In 1963, he attended school in Logan and got his private pilot license and enjoyed flying every chance he got. His special love was being with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping and traveling. He was a great example to us for his service to others and his hard work. He was an active member of the Belmont 2nd Ward and served in the stake and ward Sunday superintendency, a High Priest group leader and a very dedicated home teacher.
He was self-employed in Macfarlane Excavation and enjoyed every minute of it.
He is survived by his wife, children Judy (Roger) Newman; Rodney (Sue Ellen); and Terry; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild; one brother, Jay U. Macfarlane.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Phillip, Nevin, Robert (who died in infancy), Leo, Reed, Ted; and sisters Beth Bowcutt, Rowane Roundy, Leone White and Ardene Millar.
