Flora Elaine Nielsen Riser, 81, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, in her home in Smithfield, Utah with family by her side after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Elaine was born on December 15, 1942, in Logan, Utah to LaVere Clarence Nielsen and Luella Erickson Nielsen. She is the third daughter and sixth child of seven. She was raised in Hyrum, Utah, and attended Lincoln Elementary for the first 8 years of her education then graduated from South Cache High School.
She married Jerry Marvin Barney and had one son. She later married Delbert LeRoy (Roy) Saltern, and they had three sons. Years later she became a single mother raising her boys until she met and married Dennis Martin Riser, who then passed away from cancer in January of 2008.
Over the years Elaine thrived on being independent. She was an entrepreneur and businesswoman who became very successful after she was introduced to doTERRA essential oils. She built her own business called "For Health's Sake". Many came to Elaine for advice on using natural products. Her first response would always be “I have an oil for that.”
Elaine was also known for her creativity. She always knew how to make something out of nothing and continuously had multiple crafts going at once. She had a strong love for literature. Whether it be writing poems and stories or journaling. Her favorite holiday was always Christmas. So much so that she watched Christmas movies and listened to Christmas music all year long. She was always thinking about Christmas and on the hunt for gifts no matter the time of year. She was the true meaning of spreading joy.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the Gospel. She was very well-known and engaged in the church community. One of her favorite callings was working with the Cub Scouts.
Elaine is survived by her four sons, Ron (Camille) Saltern, Kevin Saltern, David (Anna) Saltern, and Darin (Mandy) Saltern. Dennis' children, Mike, Alan, and DeNene. Sister LaRee (Doug) Hancock, brother Douglas (Cheryl) Nielsen, sister Karen Ashliman. She has been blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Don L Nielsen, Valoy Housley, and Verl R Nielsen. Her husband Dennis Riser and stepdaughter Christy Bingham.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 1 P.M. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral service from 11 A.M. -12:30 P.M. All services will be held at Rudd Funeral Home (111 N. 100 E.- Tremonton, UT 84337). The funeral service will be livestreamed and can be accessed below.
Interment will follow the funeral service and will be at the East Garland Cemetery.
