Fred Douglas

Fred LaVar Douglas was born on September 16, 1936 in Logan, Utah. He was the third and youngest child born to Fred W. and LaPreal Douglas. He died on February 3, 2014 in Tremonton, Utah. LaVar grew up in Brigham City and spent his summers on the family farm in Howell. He married his sweetheart Iris Anderson in Tremonton, Utah. Between homes in Howell and Tremonton, they raised three children. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden LDS Temple.

LaVar graduated from Box Elder High School where he was highly involved in sports. He attended Utah State University and received a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and an administrative endorsement in education. LaVar was a teacher and an administrator in the Box Elder school district. He was beloved by his students and touched countless lives. He received a Sears-Roebuck foundation fellowship and was honored as a KSL “Teacher of the Week.”

LaVar’s favorite hobbies were farming and raising livestock. He learned to ski later in life and enjoyed taking his family on ski trips. He also loved spending time at Bear Lake. LaVar enjoyed going to the symphony, the theatre, and traveling with good friends.

LaVar was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in a number of callings including stake Sunday School president and stake Young Men’s president.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, his children Kathy (Dave) Zilles, Scott (Christy), and Teri (Bret) Lewis, a brother Louis (Joyce) Douglas, nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and his dog Gus. His parents and his sister Mary preceded him in death.

Funeral Services for LaVar will be held Monday, February 10, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Tremonton Stake Center (660 N. 300 E.) with viewings Sunday Feb 9. from 6-8 pm at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home (111 N. 100 E. - Tremonton) and Monday from 9:30 - 10:30 am prior to the service at the church.Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery.
