Gary Sorenson

March 16, 1936 — April 26, 2014

Our loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, Gary Maurice Sorenson passed away peacefully April 26, 2014 with his family by his side. There was truly a celebration in heaven as he was reunited with his mother and father and other family members at the conclusion of a life well led. Gary was born March 16, 1936 to William and Wilmoth Harding Sorenson in Salina, Utah. He married his high school sweetheart Phyllis Newton on September 1, 1956. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, LDS Temple on May 15, 1980. He often said that he could not have ever chosen a better mate to share his life with.

He grew up in Aurora, Utah, a place he dearly loved, living and working on the family farm with a close and loving family. Gary graduated from North Sevier High School, Snow College (where he played football, basketball and track) and Utah State University. He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation, Utah and Idaho Sugar Co. and the Bear River Co-Op. Although he was very successful professionally, he always said his greatest accomplishment was his family. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in many positions including two bishoprics, young men’s sports director, scouting and serving as dance director with his wife. He and Phyllis served a work mission at the Bishops Store House. He also was a former member of the Tremonton Kiwanis and was a BR Valley Hospital Volunteer. Gary loved golfing, fishing and hunting trips with his family, snowmobiling and traveling with Phyllis. Nothing gave him more pleasure than supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their endeavor’s from piano recitals, dance recitals and many sporting events.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis; four children, Kathy Wettstein, Logan; Brent David (April) Sorenson, Smithfield; Karen (Sammy) Steinmark, Golden, CO; Susan (Darwin) Bee, Tremonton. His brother Kendall (Virginia) Sorenson, brother in laws, Roger Sorensen and Leon Mason, 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Brother Cecil and sister’s Dawn, Shirley and Kay.
