Gloria Jensen

Gloria Jean Nelson Jensen, our devoted wife and mother, passed away at her home in Penrose, Utah on May 16, 2012 from the effects of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). She was born on September 25, 1946 in Brigham City, Utah. She was the second daughter of Grant Halling Nelson and Jean Waddoups Nelson of Corinne, Utah. She married Michael Bruce Jensen on June 30, 1973 in Corinne, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized a year later in the Logan, UT LDS temple. She had two daughters Virginia Jensen Babcock (Weldon) and Suzanne Jensen Johnson (Davin) and two grandchildren Chantel and Kendry Johnson. She graduated from Box Elder High School in 1964 and Utah State University in 1994 with a B.S. in Home Economics Education. Gloria loved horses, which she owned, trained, and rode, and drew and stitched their likenesses. She also loved sheep and cats. She was an expert quilter and loved gardening. She also made the best hand-dipped chocolates. She worked at the IRS and later managed Mike's CPA business. She was active in the LDS Church, the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, 4-H, the Penrose Cemetery Board, Thatcher-Penrose Service District, spent many hours at the Family History library, and volunteered with the Thatcher-Penrose Fire Department. Gloria loved art and expressed it through drawing, painting, photography, and her quilts. She enjoyed traveling, working on genealogy, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren and brothers and sisters Nola N Silva (Marcello-deceased), Clyde Waddoups Nelson (Ellen), Nancy Kristine N Calderwood (Richard), Arlene N Beck (Scott) and Jeffery Oleen Nelson (Laura). She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Jeanette N Child and brother, Grant Halling Nelson Jr. Gloria and the family express special thanks to Encompass (Alpine) Hospice for their invaluable service. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2012, at the Thatcher-Penrose LDS Church, 11475 W. 10400 N., Thatcher, UT 84437. Viewings will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday May 18, 2012 at the Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home 111 N. 100 E., Tremonton, UT 84337 and 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Thatcher-Penrose LDS Church, in Thatcher, UT.
