Hardy Christensen

August 27, 1919 — May 3, 2015

Our loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, Hardy Leland Christensen, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the age of 95.

Hardy was the son of Joseph and ‘Carrie’ Christensen born August 27, 1919 and raised on a farm in Bear River City, Utah with 3 brothers and 3 sisters. As a young child he learned the value of hard work. After plowing the fields behind a set of horses, he would love to run into town to help set up for the movie show to gain free entrance. After his father’s untimely death, and his older brother’s enlistment, Hardy helped his mother with the younger children and the farm. He later proudly served in World War II and the Korean War.

Hardy met his eternal sweetheart, Lueen Burns, at a local soda shop. They loved dancing and were very graceful on the dance floor. They married in June 1946 and was blessed with 4 children; Tami, Randy, Kirk and Cindy. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple. They resided in Bountiful, Utah for 40 years.

As a family, we enjoyed the outdoors. Camping was a favorite pastime whether it was in the back of a pickup truck in the early years, in an unfinished homemade pop up trailer or a luxurious RV in later years. Family always came first.

He was employed at Hill Air Force base as a civil engineer; overseeing many projects on base.

After Lueen’s death, Hardy met and married Elaine Martini. They enjoyed their golden years traveling and ultimately resided in Richland, Washington making many friends. They loved riding their bikes along the Columbia River and gardening. They also enjoyed wintering in Yuma, Arizona.

Hardy was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Together, he and Elaine served two missions. He also served as ward mission leader.

Hardy lived a wonderful life. Enjoying camping, fishing, golfing. He was handy and very talented with his hands enjoying woodwork. He loved his grandchildren and stood every one of them above his head on the palm of his hand. He taught his family how to work and how to love. He touched all our lives, was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by many.

Hardy is survived by his wife, Elaine, his four children; Tami, Randy (Chris), Kirk (Cindy), Cindy (Dan), 9 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, 2 sisters and 1 brother, also four step-children David (Terri), Jan, Robin (Jeff), Liz, 9 Step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lueen, 2 brothers and 1 sister.

Hardy was blessed with the love of his two families and a large extended family.
