Dean Steed

March 21, 1947 — January 6, 2023

Farr West

Harold Dean Steed, 75, passed away January 6, 2023.  Dean was born March 21, 1947, in Tremonton, Utah to Harold (Cack) and Ruth Roche Steed.  He attended Bear River High School. He married Louise Neilson June 23, 1966, they later divorced.  He married Janet Della Lucia on September 16, 1972. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Ogden Temple October 1, 1981.   He was a High Priest in the Farr West 3rd Ward and was serving as a ward clerk.  Dean was a hard worker that worked his entire life.  He was currently employed at Amentum but had worked at the U & I Sugar Factory in Garland, Defense Depot Ogden, Hill Air Force Base and was everyone’s favorite greeter at Walmart.  His favorite job was that of a rodeo cowboy, clown, and bullfighter. As early as grade school Dean developed an infatuation and passion for the sport of rodeo. He learned the sport from the likes of Burnice Hunsaker, Vern Oyler, and Keith Coombs. Through the Little Buckaroo Rodeo Association, he began his rodeo clown career and in time He, his brother Herb and occasionally his brother Cleve became known as the bullfighting Steed Brothers. Dean was a member of the UHSRA and RMRA where he competed in both timed and rough stock events. Though, His love of bullfighting led him to be a Professional Rodeo Clown and Bullfighter in the PRCA from 1975 – 1989.  As a member of the PRCA he was awarded the Wilderness Circuit Bull Fighter of the Year multiple times.  Dean was the first cowboy from Weber County to be recognized as an honoree of the National Day of the American Cowboy at the Ogden Pioneer Days rodeo in 2007 and was a 2015 Utah Cowboy and Western Heritage Hall of Fame inductee.  It was his love of rodeo that changed his life forever, becoming paralyzed from a rodeo accident in 1989.  His two favorite places to be were the rodeo arena and the mountains in Plymouth (“up home” he called it).  He was an avid hunter and would never miss a deer hunt.  Even after his accident he hunted from his truck.  He was a friend to everyone he met and loved family and friends – he especially enjoyed spending time on the Plymouth Mountain visiting and telling rodeo stories to all his relatives at the family reunions

He is survived by his wife of 50 plus years Janet, children Gary (Kim) Steed, Wendy (Jeff) Barker, Jason (Marlene) Steed and Rena (Kurt) Fuller, 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, siblings Cleve (Sue) Steed and Melba Woodward.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.

A funeral service will be held Friday, January 13, 2023, 12:00 P.M.-Noon at the Plymouth/Belmont Ward Chapel, 16925 North 5200 West, Riverside, Utah.  Family and friends may call Thursday, January 12, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton, Utah, and prior to the service Friday from 10:00 – 11:30 A.M. at the church.  Interment will be at the Plymouth Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed and may be accessed below.
