Honeyville - Harold Eugene Ward, 81 passed away at the Bear River Valley Care Center on September 25, 2013 surrounded by his loving wife, Lois and family members. He was born November 30, 1931 at home in West Bush, Gloversville, New York to Eugene Ward and Grace Young.
Harold was raised in West Bush, Gloversville, New York attending West Bush School through the 8th grade, 9th grade at Estee Jr. High School, Gloversville, New York and graduated from Broadalbin High School, Broadalbin, New York in 1948.
Harold loved to square dance and this is where he met Lois. They were married March 12, 1950 in Gloversville, NY and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 26, 1950. Three children were born of this union: Connie Lee Huggins, Garland, UT; Duane Richard Ward (Colleen) West Haven, UT; and Lori Lee Taylor (Kelly) Clearfield, UT. Harold loved his family dearly and one of his greatest joys was sharing time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild who always brought a twinkle to his eyes and a big smile to his face.
Harold was a very hard worker his entire life. At age 7, he was driving a team of horses working in the fields from sun up to sun down. He worked in the leather mills in Gloversville, NY performing a variety of job duties. Upon his arrival in Utah, Harold worked at places such as Pet Milk (Richmond), State highway Dept., Kraft Cheese (ID), Trenton Feed Co-op, Albion Veterinary Supply (Ogden), and Thiokol Chemical Corporation (Promontory). He and Lois were the proud owners of Kountry King Drive-In (Thayne, WY) which they later sold and moved back to Utah. For the last several years, Harold and Lois were campground hosts where they met many new friends.
Harold's great love was going to the mountains to hunt deer, elk, or moose. He enjoyed camping, horseback riding, and riding 4-wheel ATVs. He had a love for horses and was a member of the Clarkston Riding Club where he competed in horse racing and other riding competitions.
Harold was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he held many church positions and was a High Priest at the time of his death.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lois, three children, 11 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and two sisters, Grace Clute and Audrey Mendetta and other extended family members.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to the nurses, care givers, and staff at the Care Center who took such wonderful care of Harold over the past several months and to the Hospice staff in his final hours.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. with a viewing held prior to the funeral from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. at the Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home (111N 100 E, Tremonton). Burial will follow in the Bear River City Cemetery.
