Hilton Porter Christensen

Hilton Porter Christensen, age 84, passed away May 24, 2015 at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT. Porter was born September 20, 1930 in Thatcher, UT to Melvin Oliver and Ivie Bertha Christensen in the same home he lived his entire life in.

He served his country in the Korean War for 4 years in the communications division. He married the love of his life, Sherrie Jo Jeppesen on January 22, 1951 in Brigham City, UT; they were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on September 10, 1970. Sherrie passed away January 3, 1990.

He lived his life in Thatcher, UT where he farmed out of necessity and ranched out of passion. His summers were spent ranging cattle in the Caribou Basin. His favorite things in life were simple, family, horses, and Caribou. He was happiest when he had all three, riding horses with his family in the Caribou Basin.

He is survived by his 8 children, Carole (Mike) Richards, Kathy (Terry) Hatch, Brad (Leslie) Christensen, Ann (Joe D.) Huggins, Wendy (Jon) Scoffield, Holly (Leonard) Hill, Shannon Christensen, and Kyle (Emily) Christensen; sister, Geniel (L Jay) Silvester; 35 grandchildren and 56 (soon to be 57) great- grandchildren.

Dad was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sherrie; one brother, Clair Christensen; 3 sisters, Elaine Nelson, Floy Scott, Deon Hirschi and one great-granddaughter, Mavi Jo Scoffield.

Funeral Services will be Friday, May 29, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Thatcher-Penrose LDS Chapel (11475 W. 10400 N. – Thatcher, UT) with viewings Thursday, May 28 from 6-7:30 pm at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home (111 N. 100 E.- Tremonton) and Friday, prior to the funeral from 9:30-10:30 am at the church. Interment in the Riverview Cemetery. This is where the Cowboy Rides Away.
