Howard Royal Stokes passed away peacefully at their Logan home with his loving wife Joyce Daisy Hansen Stokes and family members nearby on June 19, 2016. He was born to Thomas William and Annie Laura Nichols Stokes on October 4, 1917 in Bothwell, Utah. Howard and Joyce were married in the Logan Temple on June 24, 1946; they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this week.
Howard worked his family farm for over sixty years after serving in World War II in the European Theater. In addition to farming, he worked Winter Campaigns at U & I Sugar and Thiokol Corporation. Howard enjoyed teaching his children farming and good work ethic, which they have carried on throughout their lives. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Howard is survived by his wife Joyce and children, Ross (JoAnn), Tommy (Debbie), Michael (Cindy), Julie Hunter (Brian) and Joann Martinez, and one sister Elaine Stokes Taliaferro; 17 grandchildren, 32 great grand-children and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his sons Steven (Betty) and Randall; and siblings Floyd, Arvilla Stark, Leland, Leona Redford, Marjorie Larsen, Verl, Florence, Dallas, Marston, and Joseph.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of Pioneer Lodge, Logan Legacy House, Intermountain Hospice, and family and friends for their loving care and support.
Funeral services will be held at the Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home (111 N. 100 E., Tremonton, UT) on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 3 pm, with a viewing prior from 1-2:30 pm. Interment and military services will follow at the Riverview Cemetery.
