Fielding- Our beloved husband, father, grandfather Ira Lloyd Winkler, 91, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on July 31, 2015 of injuries sustained in a fall.
He was born in Bluebell, Utah to Ira William and Mamie Lloyd Winkler. He married the love of his life Josie Helen Griffin on August 2, 1955. They became an eternal family on March 29, 1963 in the Logan LDS Temple. Lloyd’s life on Earth was rich and full with faith, love and family. The joy he found in his family was manifested in everyday moments he shared with them. With his loving heart, twinkling eyes and mischievous grin, there could be no doubt that Lloyd’s life and love were centered around his family.
Lloyd grew up in the Unita Basin and attended school in Roosevelt and Price. In 1942 he joined the US Navy where he was assigned to the USS Enterprise CV6 “The big E” aircraft carrier (the most decorated ship if WWII). While on board he fought in the Pacific arena earning 11 of its 20 battle stars.
Dad was very patriotic and proud of his service to his country. He continued his association with those whom he served with in the USS Enterprise CV6 Association throughout the rest of his life. At the time of his death he was the only living WWII Veteran in Fielding.
Over the years Dad worked at many occupations, a jack of all trades, He was a coal miner (Horse Canyon Mine), Laundry manager (Super State), Truck driver (Model Laundry), Furniture Upholstery (Dons Furniture), Factory Worker (Sugar Factory), Milked cows (Zundel Dairy), Shoe repairman (Hepps), owner of Winks Shoe Repair and Laundry Manager & Stores Foreman at Thiokol.
He served in many church callings but especially loved serving in the scouting program as a Skipper of the Sea Explorers on the Great Salt Lake, Cub Master and District Cub Master Trainer. Lloyd was a dedicated home teacher and served with his wife as an officiator in the Logan Temple.
He felt that he had lived in a golden time from the horse and wagon times, through airplane, TV, jets, rockets, man on the moon and the success of the space shuttle program.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Keith and granddaughter Wendy.
