James Dal Barney, 66, returned to live with his Heavenly Father on April 3rd, 2019, after battling pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his family at his home in Bear River City, Utah.
Jim was born June 5th, 1952, in Lehi, Utah, to his parents Ephraim Dalmain Barney and Leora Haycock Barney. He lived in Lehi, Provo, Chula Vista California, and Layton Utah, where he attended Layton High school. In 1969 he served our country in the US Army. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he held many callings through the years.
Jim married Katherine Redford in 1970. They had five children together and established their family in Hooper, Utah. Jim later married Kathy Isaacson, mother of three, in 1988 and moved to Elwood Utah, where they joined their families together. In 2000, Jim and Kathy were able to build their dream home in Bear River City. Jim and Kathy were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 15, 2003.
Jim’s father passed away when he was 14 years old. Because of this, he began working at a young age to help his mother provide for his two brothers and three sisters. Jim was always a hard worker; he studied to be an electrician while working for Christensen Electric in Ogden. He took a position as a millwright at Western Zirconium, retiring 32 years later, in 2013.
Jim was a true cowboy, living in his boots, Wranglers and cowboy hat. He loved animals, having dogs, horses, cows, sheep and pheasants over the years. He loved spending time in the outdoors with his family and friends, going camping, and four-wheeling. He enjoyed fishing with his wife and grandkids. Jim was an avid hunter and loved hunting elk, deer, geese, ducks, and pheasants. Jim also enjoyed riding horses; he spent many years riding and hunting near Causey Reservoir and into the Tetons. He loved his grandkids and everything they did.
After retirement, Jim loved working outside and tinkering with many projects. He loved doing leatherwork and taxidermy. He was proud of his garden each year and loved making homemade salsa with family each fall. He took pride in working his land.
Jim is survived by his wife Kathy Barney (Isaacson), five daughters, and three sons: Amy (Brett) Alston of Houston, TX; Emily (Kyle) Christensen of Willard, UT; Erik Barney of Tremonton, UT; Annette (Eric) Page of Deweyville, UT; Courtney (Chet) Young of Wallsburg, UT; Jason (K’Dee) Shearer of North Ogden, UT; Brandon (Shantel) Shearer of Syracuse, UT; and Marnee (John) Heppner of Abilene, TX; as well as 21 grandchildren and his siblings, Joy & John Savage, Peggy & Ron Skog, Jay Barney, and Terri Barney.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, brother Roger Barney, and grandson Kayden Shearer.
