James Heed Greer

James Heed Greer, age 96, passed away on January 4, 2024, in Tremonton, Utah.

James was born on May 30, 1927, to parents James Thomas Greer and Myrtle Lowery Greer in Cypress, Johnson, Illinois.

James was sealed for eternity with his spouse Deanna Lyman Greer on August 29, 1961, in the Salt Lake City Temple.

James graduated from West Aurora High School in Illinois. Throughout his life, he lived in Cypress, Aurora, Savanna (all in Illinois), and Tremonton, Utah. Working at various places including the Barber Greene company, Coast to Coast Hardware Store, and his wood shop called The Little Shop That Wood.

James dedicated his time and expertise as a city councilman for Tremonton, Utah. His commitment to his work earned him the distinguished award of Businessman of the Year. In addition to his professional pursuits, he found great joy in woodworking. Crafting laminated wooden bowls and Christmas gifts were some of his favorite hobbies.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, James served as Branch President in the Clinton Iowa Branch. He also volunteered his time and talents by embarking on four missions: Texas & Louisiana Mission; And then with his wife Deanna in the Columbus Ohio Mission, Tulsa Oklahoma Mission, and Fresno California Mission. He and his wife Deanna also served for 8 years as temple workers in the Logan, Utah Temple.

In addition to his loving wife Deanna Lyman Greer, James is survived by his son Thomas Randel Greer; daughters Janeen Greer Ardito, Lucinda Greer Henry, Susanne Greer Williams, and Carolyn Greer; and sister Mary Jane Greer Dalley. He had 13 grandchildren, and they are: Marisa, Julie, James & Tyee Greer; Nicole & Danielle Ardito; RJ, Samantha, Tom & Kathy Henry; Logan, Emily & Spencer Williams. Jim made a wooden 4-seat Ferris Wheel, which his grandchildren loved to ride. They rode it until they wore it out!

James was preceded in death by his father James Thomas Greer; mother Myrtle Lowery Greer; sister Louise Greer Erekson; and son James Lyman Greer.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 12 at 11:00 AM, with family and friends visiting from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Tremonton Stake Center (660 N 300 E, Tremonton, UT 84337 ). A viewing will also be held on Thursday, January 11 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM also at the Tremonton Stake Center. The service will be livestreamed and may be accessed below.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Tremonton 6th Ward Bishopric and Relief Society.
