James Ferrin Sorensen surrounded by his loving family, peacefully returned to his heavenly home on Monday April 7, 2014.
He was born on April 19, 1941 in Logan, Utah to Sidney Sorensen and Annie Christensen Sorensen. He married the love of his life Alfreda Mary Girling on October 27, 1978. They were later sealed together for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple.
Ferrin was a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. He was a proud, active and faithful member. He faithfully and happily fulfilled many callings including: High Priest Group Leader, Gospel Doctrine Teacher and Elders Quorum Teacher. He loved learning and sharing his knowledge with others. He graduated from Bear River High School in 1959 and was a proud member of the Honor Roll, FFA and Bruins Club.
Ferrin’s life was spent focused on his family and farm. His working years were spent running his award winning dairy farm in East Garland, Utah. He loved working the land and caring for his animals. He had a stubbornness born of success and accomplishment. He was a self-taught carpenter, builder, plumber, electrician, painter, mechanic, welder, photographer and avid western art enthusiast. His many talents were used doing things for others. He loved building one of a kind playhouses and doll houses for his daughters, restoring old cars (especially Fords), collecting guns, visiting western ghost towns, western dancing with mom, family trips to Yellowstone, Zions National Park, Bear Lake and Southern Utah, and fishing trips to Locomotive, Daniels and Deep Creek with his children. He spent many evenings sitting around the dining room table sharing jokes and stories with family and laughing until he cried. He loved his 1968 Mustang fastback, and his 1969 Mach 1. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Utah Jazz, BYU football and BYU basketball. His love and dedication to Mom, God and Family is an example and inspiration to us all.
He is survived by his wife Alfreda, children, Nick (Colleen) DeAngelo, Mark (Tricia) DeAngelo, Kevin DeAngelo, Krista DeAngelo, Greg (Loni) DeAngelo, Toni (Jeff) Winegar, Kimberly (Matt) Clark, 20 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and his brother Chris (Brenda) Sorensen and sister Kathy (Paul) Gage.
