Our dear mom, Janet Adams Wood, passed away on September 21, 2024, at Birch Creek Assisted Living in Smithfield, Utah at the age of 90. She was born in Logan, Utah on August 15, 1934, the middle daughter of William Earl and Pearl Petersen Gordon. She came home to East Center Street in Smithfield, Utah where she grew up with many friends and family nearby. She had a close relationship with her “Daddy.” Her sister, LaRee, was ten years older, a brother, William Earl Gordon Jr. who was born prematurely, and passed the same day; and four years later her sister, Erlene, was born. She attended schools in Smithfield, graduating from North Cache High School in Richmond, Utah. Soon after graduation she married our dad, DeVere Kay Adams, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple on June 20, 1952. They lived in Fielding for a short time, later living in Tremonton, Roy, and back to the new home where we grew up in Fielding, Utah.
She had four children, Laurie Jo, who passed away at age 5, Darryl, who passed away at age 19, Jana Dee, and Douglas Earl. Losing her children was something she never got over, and we are sure the reunion was beautiful when she was finally able to kick this mortal life to the curb once and for all. She had a few different jobs in her life, but her identity seemed wrapped up in being a mother, wife, and a Tupperware Sales manager. People from all over knew who she was for this reason. Janet had many friends through her career. She worked hard and excelled at what she did. She earned the use of a new car or van every two years for a long time. She was a member of, and served in positions in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, The Young Homemakers Club, Garden Club, and others. She served for many years as a Senior Companion volunteer making a difference through compassionate service in the lives of others, who also became dear friends.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in positions as she was able, and sharing her testimony with others. She had one especially large class of Primary kids and loved them very much. She also served in the Logan Temple with her husband DeVere for several years.
Our dad passed away on November 16, 1995. She was able to find love and happiness again when she married Myron Jonathan (MJ) Wood from Fielding on September 6, 2000. They had a wonderful life together traveling, working, and playing. He passed away on January 31, 2003. She loved MJ’s family, counting them all as her own. The more the merrier for our mom as far as family went. Mom had an especially close relationship with her daughter-in-law Clarinda Wood.
Janet is survived by her daughter Jana (Huck) Hansen; son, Doug (Dianne) Adams; grandchildren, Brandon (Karyn) Hansen, Dan (Shurlana) Hansen, Haylee (Lance) Hinton, Travis (Brittnie) Hansen, Katee (Brian) Dash, Ben (Julie) Carter, Brad (Nicki) Carter, Ashlee Jae Adams, and Ryan Adams who is serving in the Newport Beach, California mission. She is also survived by 19 precious great- grandchildren who she adored- Troy, Samantha, Jaxson (deceased), Rylen, Will, Blake, Austin, Griffen, Ruger, Kimber, Scout, Barrett, Jackson, Jace, Emma, Logan, Elise, Claire, and Sage. All of these sweet grand and great-grandchildren were her reason for living.
She is survived by one sister-in-law, Elaine Stanwood and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Janet was preceded in death by both of her husbands, two children, Laurie Jo and Darryl Gordon Adams; her parents; in-laws, Afton and Leona Adams; sisters LaRee (Ray) McMurdie; and Erlene (Wil) Hedrick, and great-grandson, Jaxson Hansen.
Special thanks to Birch Creek Assisted Living caregivers and staff in Smithfield, Utah, to Atlas Homecare & Hospice, her healthcare providers, and friends and family who enriched her life.
