Our Hero Jasper Woods Shaffer, 95 passed away November 1, 2012 at his home in East Garland. Jasper was born May 27, 1917 in Milford, Utah to Larkin Richard Shaffer & Dora Woods Shaffer. He married Donna Oyler and she passed away on June 15, 1980. He later married Janice Smith on September 20, 1986 in the Logan LDS Temple. Jasper grew up in Milford, Utah and lived the rest of his life in East Garland. He attended Bear River High School and then worked at U & I Sugar Factory until his retirement. He was an avid craftsman; he could do anything with wood. He loved to garden, and in his younger years he hunted and loved to fish. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the Logan Temple and a mission in Dallas, Texas and Denver, Colorado, Which was the highlight of his life. Jasper is survived by his wife Janice;+ Brother Don Shaffer (North Logan, UT), Sister Iva Godfrey (Riverside, UT); His children, Dean (Jolene) Providence, UT, Richard (Sandra) and Barbara (Steve) Grover, both of East Garland; two step-daughters Stephanie (Richard) Jones, Alpine, UT, and Kelley (Clark) Beacher, Harrisville, UT; 25 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, 22 great, great grandchildren and one great great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Donna Shaffer, three brothers Vernon, Ken and Ned, five sisters Vera, Effie, Carmen, Lenna, and Joanne, and one great granddaughter. The family would like to thank the nurses at Bear River Valley Hospital, Dennis Wildman and Hospice staff at Sunshine Terrace. Jasper will always be remembered for his soft-spoken manner and his example will go on without him here. He was loved by all who knew him. Funeral services for Jasper will be held Monday November 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fielding Stake Center (4375 W 15600 N Fielding, UT). Viewings will be held Sunday November 4, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at the Fielding Stake Center and previous to the funeral from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
