Jean Larsen

Jean Allen Larsen, 76, returned to her Heavenly home on August 19, 2017. She passed away peacefully at her home in Smithfield, UT, surrounded by her family. Jean is the second daughter and third child of Ferris Hunsaker and May Jensen Allen of Tremonton, UT. She was born January 10, 1941.

Jean married Charles Bennett Larsen on September 10, 1959, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Jean was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served the Lord in many positions throughout her life. The first calling after she was married was to teach a Young Marrieds class with her husband, Chuck, in Elwood, Utah. She had a lot of fun with this calling. She also served as a counselor in the Smithfield 5th Ward Primary, as a counselor in the 5th ward MIA Program, and as a counselor in the Smithfield Stake Relief Society. These callings were probably her most favorite callings because of those with whom she served. She also enjoyed serving an LDS church mission to Houston, Texas, with her husband from October 2003 to April 2005 as Mission Employment Specialists. After their mission, she served with her husband, Chuck, as a Ward Missionary Leader, Ward Librarian and Primary teacher. She also served as a Relief Society Visiting Teacher and Visiting Teacher Supervisor.

Jean’s main calling in life was to raise and teach her 5 children and serve others. In particular, she helped her brother Dale after he lost his first wife, Karroll, and her mother, May, after her father, Ferris, died. Jean cared for her mother for over 30 years until she died at age 100. During those years she traveled to Tremonton every week to assist with the needs of her mother until the last 3 years when she cared for her mother full time at her home in Smithfield. One of the greatest challenges of Jean’s life was nursing her husband back to health after he was in an airplane accident in 1980. She was an amazing care giver and lost herself in the service of others all her life.

Jean worked at Thiokol in her early married years to help put her husband through school. She then took time off to raise her family. After her husband’s airplane accident, she went back to work to help support her family. She enjoyed the many people with whom she worked, particularly those associated with Boston Dentistry.

In Jean’s younger years, she was very athletic and played on a girls softball team as the pitcher and 1st baseman. She was pretty good at it too. She loved to bowl with her husband and won several trophies while doing so. She loved to go for rides in the car with Chuck and see as much of the world as she could see. She was very observant and remembered all the little details wherever she went. She also enjoyed every opportunity she had to go flying with Chuck.

Jean is survived by her husband, Charles Bennett Larsen, (married 58 years), 5 children, Lana Jean Carter (Bryan), Cathy Larsen, Peggy Dale (Ronald), Charles Allen Larsen (Corinn), and Wendy Saxton (Kerry). She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and siblings, Don Allen, Ross Allen (Lynne) and Marie Munns (Ronald). She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Dale Ferris Allen, and sister, Betty Mae Thompson.

A viewing will be held in the Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 N 100 E, Tremonton, UT, on Friday, August 25, 2017, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 11:30 am in the Smithfield Stake Center, 600 E 120 S, Smithfield, UT, with a viewing from 9:00 until 11:00 am. Interment will be in the Elwood Utah Cemetery following the funeral.

The family would especially like to thank IHC Hospice, especially Kelly and Anna, for the excellent care they provided to Jean during the past couple of months.
