John A Bourne, 82, passed away from complications with Parkinson Disease on June 9, 2011 at his home in East Garland Utah with his loving wife by his side. He was born September 3, 1928 in Garland, Utah, the son of Charles Wallace and Mattie Mabel Robinson Bourne. He attended Garland Elementary and graduated from Bear River High School and LDS Seminary. He excelled in F.F.A. activities and received awards both locally and nationally. He served as Senior Class President with Roma Jean Hill of Tremonton as Vice President. His greatest gift was marrying Roma on September 3, 1947 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They were happily married for 63 years and blessed with six children. John was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who was happiest when serving others. Professionally, he was a farmer who shared a dairy with his brother, Charles J in West Fielding. He also worked in the lab at U& I Sugar Co., and later as a foreman at La-Z-Boy. He worked for 16 years with his wife as custodians for the church. He was honored to serve as Bishop of the East Garland Ward, loving the members dearly. Among his many other Church callings he served as ward clerk, first councilor in the bishopric, and as a high councilman. For 11 wonderful years he and his wife served as directors of the Baptistry in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. He spent most of his adult life serving in various positions in the Scouting program. His exceptional leadership earned him some of scouting’s highest honors including the Award of Merit and Silver Beaver; he also served as District Chairman. He was involved in the 4-H program serving as club leader to many of the valley’s youth on their various livestock projects. Of his many achievements, he would proudly say his family was his greatest. Nothing gave him more joy than being with family. We will forever be grateful for his love, example, and testimony and will strive daily to live up to the legacy he left behind. Surviving are his wife Roma; sons: Alan H (Doylene), Kevin W (Jill); daughters: Sandra (Robert) Orme, Brenda (Alan) Godfrey, and Gloria (Andy) Hunter; 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, as well as a sister LaNae Summers of Bothwell.
