June Okland Cockrell

June 24, 1927 — February 24, 2023

June Okland Cockrell passed away February 24, 2023 surrounded by her family.

She was born June 24, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Martha Larsen and John J. Okland, Jr. She was the youngest of four children, raised in Salt Lake City and attended Columbus Elementary, Irving Jr. High, South High and University of Utah where she studied art. While at the University, the artist Alvin Gittins had June sit for a beautiful portrait which hangs in her home.

On September 12, 1952 she married Stanley H. Cockrell and together built a life, home and family full of love, laughter and hard work.

June started working at the age of 14 for Keith O’Brien Department Store as an elevator operator. She moved on to sales and then modeling. She modeled locally for all the major department stores and boutiques and was crowned Sugarhouse Turkey Days Queen.

June was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a testimony of Jesus Christ and His atonement. She served in the Primary, Young Women’s and Relief Society. She also served as a hostess at the Church Office Building and as a Temple Worker.

June was elegant and beautiful inside and out never leaving the house without makeup or being impeccably dressed. She treated everyone with kindness, generosity and compassion. She was a lifelong artist and oil painter. She was a great cook, preparing many dishes from her Norwegian heritage which she was very proud of. She was always loving, positive, humble, supportive, and full of grace.

She lovingly cared for three husbands; Stanley H. Cockrell (1927-1986), D.A. Osguthorpe (1920-2009) and Homer Warner (1922-2012) who preceded her in death.

June is survived by her children Tamra (Fred) Wunderli, John (Shauneen) Cockrell and Colette (Wayne) Olsen; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren with 5 on the way.
