Karen Lea Crowther Busenbark (Leany), age 84, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2023, while in the loving home of her son Edward. With Eddie by her side, she greeted her loved ones beyond the veil, and we know it was a glorious reunion.
Karen was born December 12, 1938, in Brigham City, Utah, the first of three daughters born to Lyle Edward Crowther and Felna May Booth Crowther. She grew up in Brigham City with her two sisters, Lyla Ann and Colleen, and spent her summers in Bridge, Idaho, with her grandma and grandpa Booth.
She met her husband, Dee Lewis Busenbark, at a weeknight mutual activity, and it was love at first sight for Karen. She drew a heart on the fogged window in the car they were riding in, and D.L. proposed on prom night. They were married on September 26, 1958, in the Logan Utah Temple. Prior to their marriage, they were both hired by Thiokol, where Karen started as a typist. They began their family in 1960 with the birth of their first daughter, Vaniece, followed by Koreen, Edward, and Lesle. Karen temporarily stepped away from her position at Thiokol to nurture her children in their youth and later resumed her career, ultimately retiring as a senior buyer in 1995.
In 1997, Karen and D.L. served as missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Family History Center on Temple Square as well as at the Logan Utah Temple and Family History Center. They loved serving in both Salt Lake City and Logan.
After D.L.’s passing in 2001, Karen moved to St. George. In 2008, while serving a mission at the employment office, she met and married Bert Leany. Karen described Bert as a sweet gentleman whom she enjoyed being with. They lived happily in St. George until he passed in 2015.
Karen is survived by her son Edward D. Busenbark (Jennifer) and daughter-in-law Irma Busenbark (Lesle); grandchildren Karlea Jay Lish, Cami Jo Larson Rose (Jason), Lori Lea Larson Hall (Robert), Derrick Dee Larson (Stephanie), Alex George Busenbark (Heather), Madisen Elise Busenbark, Adaley Jean Busenbark, Anna Busenbark; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Dee Lewis Busenbark and Bert Leany; children Vaniece Lish (Paul), Koreen Burgess (Brady), and Lesle John Busenbark; and grandson A.J. Keller (Vaniece).
