Karen Sue Bess Nelson
Penrose - Karen Sue Bess Nelson, 54, died Thursday, July 24, 2014 at home as a result of chronic illnesses.
She was born September 29, 1959 in Las Cruces, New Mexico, a daughter of Wanda Loyd and Virgil Ted Bess.
She married Dennis E. Nelson May 13, 1979 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Karen had lived in Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Houston, Texas; and Penrose, Utah. She was a high school graduate and was close to finishing her certification in herbology. Karen dried her own fruits, vegetables, and dried herbs and flowers for many years. She had been activities director at Peach Tree Assisted Living, and an Avon representative for several years earning numerous awards. She served as cub scout leader for many years and scout committee chairman. Both her sons earned their Eagle Scout Award at age 13.
Her hobbies included gardening, crafts, herbology, her animals, decorating for the holidays, and cooking.
Karen was a very compassionate person, giving of herself for others.
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Dennis; sons Eric and Jeremy; her mother, Wanda Barks, two sisters, Kathy Elizabeth (Glen) Robertson, Debra Ann (Danny) Payne; two brothers, Ted (Betty) Bess, Charles Anthony (Erin) Barks; sisters-in-law Sharon (Jerry) Johnsen, Carolyn Nelson, two aunts, many nieces and nephews who loved her, and many beloved pets. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frances and Leonard Loyd, her father, Virgil Ted Bess, stepfather, Charles Barks, several aunts and uncles, and her in-laws, Emery and Dorothy Nelson.
Funeral services will be held at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. A viewing will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to services.
