Kathryn Merle (Call) Hyer

November 13, 1942 — January 27, 2025

Kathryn Merle Call Hyer, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend was received back into the presence of her Heavenly Father on January 27, 2025, after enduring faithfully to the end through long and difficult health challenges. Her husband and sweetheart, Keith F. Hyer, was by her side, where he had staunchly remained for nearly 60 years.

Kathryn was born on a wintery day in Driggs, Idaho November 13, 1942, the first of 4 children, to Benjamin E. Call, and Merle Castleton Call. The Calls moved several times in her childhood, living many places in Idaho and Utah until they eventually settled in Bountiful, Utah.

After graduating from Bountiful High School, she attended a technical college in Salt Lake City on a full scholarship earning her LPN (License Practical Nurse). She ultimately wanted to be a teacher, so she worked as a nurse to pay for her schooling at Utah State Agricultural College. It was there, in a Spanish class, that she met her husband. They were married in the Logan Temple on June 11, 1965, on the wedding anniversary of her parents and great-grandparents.

Kathryn and Keith had 6 children together. Being a mother was her joy, and she took that role very seriously from the time her oldest child was born and for the rest of her life, never missing an opportunity to teach, admonish, instruct, support, correct, and love.

Keith and Kathryn brought sacred music into their home. They loved to sing and taught their children to sing and share their talents in church, for weddings, funerals, long car rides, various other events, and for jolly sing-ins around the piano at home.

Kathryn was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a variety of callings in primary including president, secretary, councilor, teacher, song leader, and nursery leader. She also served as the ward chorister, temple ordinance worker, and was a faithful visiting teacher.

Kathryn enjoyed calligraphy, quilting, wheat weaving, wood burning, book binding, crafting, creating, genealogy, journaling and many more hobbies, but most of all, being with her family.

Kathryn is survived by her loyal husband Keith, her sisters, Sandra Bishop (James-deceased), and Jane Randall (Randy), her brother Ben (Judy) Call, their 6 children Drew (Jane) Hyer, K’Leis (Quinn) Young, Kristina (Butch) Rich, Kendell (Bobbi) Hyer, Kent (Jennie) Hyer, and Katy (Rich) Robertson, 30 Grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren with 3 in production, many wonderful in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two grandsons, brothers and sisters-in-law, two nieces, and two nephews.

The family would like to thank the many people from Community Nursing Services, especially Fyre, Sheena, Jessie, Riley, Robert, Anna, Lizzie, Jason, Chaplin Dan Judd, Dr. Salisbury, Dr. Moulton, Dr C.
