LaNae Bourne Summers age 91, passed away at Bear River Valley Hospital on September 20, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 19, 1922 in Farmington, UT the daughter of Charles Wallace and Mattie Robinson Bourne. She was the second of three children.
Mom grew up in West Fielding on her parents’ farm, where she loved to ride horses, play softball and play with her cousins. Mom learned to love animals and was always caring for any creature that she thought needed help.
She attended Fielding Elementary School and later graduated from Bear River High School in 1940 where she was the editor of the Searchlight (the school newspaper). She was an excellent student and participated in school activities. She also graduated from the Garland LDS Seminary.
LaNae met Farrell Summers at the Box Elder County Fair and they were married on December 24, 1940. Their Marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on July 1, 1942. They lived in Bothwell, UT where they farmed, raised turkeys and they raised six children who were taught the value of hard work and helping others. We are grateful for those lessons and example.
Mom loved to read, raise beautiful flowers, bake delicious cookies and cinnamon rolls. Homemade root beer was plentiful during the summer. Camping with friends and family was a favorite outing for Mom. She was happiest surrounded by family & friends.
Mom was a woman of many talents. She taught the Gospel Doctrine class for many years, also served as a ward and stake YWMIA counselor. She taught Primary, and was Sunday School Secretary. She also taught Relief Society and was a visiting teacher for many years. Mom worked as a clerk in the Technical Library at Thiokol for 20 years. She was a gracious lady who loved to serve others.
Mom is survived by her children: Kirk (Mary Ann) Summers of Belt, MT, Blair (Linda) Summers of Bothwell, UT, LaNette (Monty) Jones of Fielding, UT, Bruce (Susan) Summers of Draper, UT, Michael (Kristin) of Thatcher, UT and Susan (Jeffrey) Nielsen of Bothwell, UT; 29 granchildren, 77 great grandchildren with two more expected; 12 great great grandchildren and one sister-in-law Roma Jean Bourne of East Garland, UT.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Farrell Summers, her parents, her brothers Jay Bourne, John A. Bourne and her sister-in-law Erma Bourne. As well as four grandchildren, one great grandchild and one great great grandchild.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bear River Valley Hospital for their unmatched care and compassion, also to Intermountain Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday September 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bothwell LDS Church (10350 W 11600 N). There will be viewings held on Tuesday September 24, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at the Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home (111 N. 100 E.) and at the church previous to the funeral from 9:30- 10:30 a.m.
