LaVada Mae Deakin Bench passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 13, 1940, and was the cherished daughter of Ralph and Lila Deakin.
Mom loved her childhood and talked about her many adventures while growing up in Blue Creek and Howell. She met George Kenneth Bench Jr. when she was 15 years old and they were married on July 5,1956, when she was just 16. As a newly married couple they moved to Los Cruces, NM; where George was stationed in the Army. This is where she suffered the loss of her first child David and then a year later lost her second boy Keith. When George’s Army assignment was completed, they moved back to Howell to be closer to family.
Mom had many talents which she shared with everyone. Each beloved granddaughter received a homemade quilt, and each family member received a handmade rag rug which she made on a loom. She had many talents.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served a mission to Brenham, TX with her sweetheart, George. She faithfully served in various callings throughout her life.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; two sons; one grandson, Darrin and two great grandchildren, Taggen and Lucy.
