LaVern Jenson passed away peacefully at his home in Promontory, Utah on January 18, 2024, at the age of 80. He was born on February 14, 1943, in Roosevelt, Utah to Joseph Calvin Jenson and Lorna Christensen Jenson. Growing up as the eighth child among fifteen siblings in Talmage, Utah, LaVern experienced the warmth of a large and loving family.
On June 15, 1961, LaVern married Barbara Jeanne Jenson in Salt Lake City, Utah. Jeanne passed away on January 5, 2024.
Throughout his life, LaVern resided in Ogden, Utah and Promontory, Utah. He attended Altamont High School and later pursued his education at Utah State University.
LaVern worked at Mountain States Fence Co for his brother-in-law Dean Rowley, where he found great satisfaction and joy in constructing, repairing, and maintaining fences. He spent countless hours on horseback, riding and checking fences.
In addition to his work in the fencing industry, LaVern was also trained as a meat cutter. Although he was initially drafted for the Vietnam War, an injury to his left eye redirected his path towards Utah State University, where he gained a degree in Aircraft Electrical Engineering. LaVern then went on to work at Hill Airforce Base on F4 fighter jets, but his true calling came when he became the Foreman of the Rafter S Ranch. Taking care of the ranch's livestock brought him immense joy and fulfillment. In his retirement years, he dedicated himself to caring for our mother until her recent passing.
LaVern leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment. He is survived by his children Shelley (Buck) Taylor and Chris (Mary Jo) Jenson, along with his brother Dallas (Ilene) Jenson and sisters Dena Fellows, Maxine Skinner, and Leola Jenson. He will forever be remembered by his grandchildren Brian Jenson, Chelsea Escalante, Ripley Taylor, Jordyn Petrik, Taylor Petrik and his 19 great-grandchildren.
LaVern is preceded in death by his beloved wife Jeanne Jenson, as well as his parents and infant sister. He is also preceded in death by his siblings Robert Jenson, Roberta Nielson, Beverly Stevenson, Betty Rowley, Arnold Jenson, Luella Fielding, Reed Jenson, Leslie Jenson, and Eugene Jenson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 4 P.M at the Yates Red Barn (5090 North Highway 38, Brigham City, Utah 84302). Light refreshments will be served.
