BEND, OR - Lewis (Luke) Madsen Bingham, 64, passed away in Bend, Oregon on Sunday, August 23, 2015 of a massive heart attack. He was born on December 7, 1950 in Brigham City, Utah, the son of Earl Lewis and Afton Madsen Bingham.
Luke's formal education began at the Honeyville Elementary School and continued to graduation at Box Elder High School. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church. After high school, he apprenticed as a meat cutter and advanced to become a journeyman and that became his love and life occupation. He was not satisfied to just cut the meat. He loved to cut it and share his knowledge of how to cook it to achieve the best flavor for his customers and was able to make and keep many endearing relationships through his efforts.
Luke married Nancy Lamere in 1971. They had a daughter, Misty, but later divorced. On March 16, 1974, Luke married Linda Spiegel. His work took them to several locations before they made their permanent home in Bend, Oregon. They were the parents of two daughters, Angela and Katie. Their happiness here was too short lived as Linda died of an asthmatic attack in 1999.
Luke had a very admirable talent for making the best of each situation so carried on as both Dad and Mom for his daughters. He was always the upbeat person who didn't let anyone know if he was having a down day. When our Father was in his failing years, Luke took his turn at helping by coming to Utah on several occasions and spending time to help take care of our Dad. It was difficult but he could get Dad laughing and feeling happy as they reminisced about earlier good times. Luke could light up the room when he entered and was great at being able to entertain any and all! He was dedicated to his work--wanting to die with his boots on, which he successfully did--he was on his way home from work when he passed away. He had an infectious smile which he was quick to share with everyone. Behind that smile there always seemed to be a streak of mischief which he willingly shared, also.
In addition to his wife, Linda, Luke was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmom, Eleida, two sisters, Marilyn and Jeanette, two brothers, Rees and Clark and a grandson, Andrew. He is survived by daughters Misty (Kuamoo), Angela (Ryan), Katie, granddaughters Karassa, Falisha, Marissa, Megan, and grandsons Caleb and Michael. Living siblings are brothers, Darwin, Ed, Bryon, Boyd, and Doug and sisters, Erlene, Bernice, and Irene.
Memorial services will be held in Bend, Oregon Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the Honeyville L.D.S. Chapel Friday, September 4, 2015 at 2 p.m. Friends and family may call prior to the services from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Honeyville Cemetery.
