Lyle F. Watson, 88, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2024 at his home in Tremonton, Utah.
Lyle was born June 11, 1936, in St. Anthony, Idaho to Don E. and Lovella Weeding. Dad was raised in Blackfoot, Idaho. After graduating high school, he served in the National Guard. His family moved to Logan then Garland. A blind date introduced him to the love of his life, Verlene Udy of Fielding. It was the classic bad boy meets good girl story. The love mom and dad shared for over 64 years was incredible to witness every single day.
Dad had various jobs, first working alongside his father at a local garage where he learned his amazing mechanic skills. After his dad passed away he then worked in construction and drove truck until he landed the job he loved as lead mechanic at John Deere Taylor for over 20 years then Thiokol/ATK in vehicle maintenance for 20 years before retiring. Farmers from Utah and Idaho kept dad plenty busy with tractor engine repairs on the side well into his 70’s.
In his younger years dad loved snowmobiling, camping, hunting and was an avid golfer. He even got a Hole-In-One at the golf course in Twin Falls. Prior to 2020 an absolute must was his daily trips to JC’s Diner to meet up with the “Coffee Shop Crew” to discuss and solve the world’s problems. If dad ever gave you a hard time about anything you knew you were considered a friend. His quick wit will be greatly missed.
He loved to paint his yard statues or anything we could come up with to try and keep him busy. He was never one to just sit idle. When he wasn’t outside in his immaculately organized garage, he was inside doing a puzzle for the majority of the day. Needless to say, his puzzle collection is second to none. He also had an incredible hat collection and he knew exactly who and where he got each one from and which container to find it in. Weekly trips to Maddox Drive-Inn on Tuesdays and Saturdays were the highlight of the week. A special thanks to the young gals that took such good care of them each visit. Every Thursday morning like clockwork it was yard work day and running the riding mower was his assignment and he took it very seriously making sure to go a different direction each week.
Lyle is survived by his loving wife, Verlene, daughters Vicki (Duane) Godfrey and Annie Watson. His two grandsons who meant the world to him, Hayden (Kenzie) Williams and Parker (Valerie) Williams, and great grandson Finn Lyle Williams. As well as many additional “bonus” step-grand kids and great-grand kids. Sister, Donna (Bob) Montgomery, brothers, Wayne and Gene. In-laws; Owen (Kay) Udy, Boyd (Kris) Udy, Jess (Georgia) Udy, and John McClellen.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Verl & Edith Udy, daughter Patti Jo Watson, sister in-laws Shirley Watson and Kayla McClellen, and brother in-law Denny Richardson.
